Okay so me and my friend are both DJs and he wanted to give me some crates he had (he uses Serato; I use VDJ). he transferred the .crate files from his hard drive to mine, but i am not sure how i can get VDJ to read the .crate files. I see nothing in the VDJ browser window. Is there anything i can do ?
We both use Macbooks if that matters.

If you havent installed Serato, then put the Crates into a folder and select that folder from VirtualDJ Settings->OPTIONS tab -->search for Crates or SeratoFolder option.
Also make sure Crates is selected from Browser Options (small dot button at the left side of Browser)->Root elements ->Crates.
Once you do those, a Crates folder will appear in the Folders list.
Note. As far as i recall, maybe i am wrong, Smart Crates (aka Filter Folders in VirtualDJ) will not be shown, as those hold some criteria and are dynamic lists.

Yes you are right. On my system I have only smart crates (21 of them) and none show in VDJ.
