Topic: Question About Mpeg 4 Format ?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

i was searching the internet for mp3 DJ pools that have & or offered some older stuff. like best of 80's,90's,2000's etc,etc just to catch up on missing music i don't have & wanted to bolster my music folder. anyhoo i found a great deal on some back issue classics. but they are only offered in Mpeg 4 videos. i told the guy on the phone i don't DJ with video & he said it didn't matter. as long as i don't have a video monitor hooked up the music files in the videos will play just fine like any reg mp3 song that i already have on my computer. ive never dealt with that format. so is he telling me the truth or just trying to sell me something & take my money ? will VDJ 8 play these files just like any reg mp3 song i have in my collection ? and will they take up alot of space ?

Yes, the audio part will play back just like a normal music-only file - but what's the bit rate? How well is the audio part of the file encoded? You need to check.

Without a second monitor connected, or using a video skin, you or your audience will be none the wiser. You'll hear the audio. You won't see the video.

Yes they will take up more room than a plain audio file of the same quality, because they will contain audio + video data. The exact size will depend on the encoding (how compressed they are) - see above.

great info (like always) last Question will the show artist, song, title in VDJ correctly or i'll need to tag the info to it using some kind of special software ?

It should work just like a regular audio file, as far as I know (I don't use videos either).

It will also be costlier. Why pay video prices, if you are not going to use them? If you can find the video, surely you can find the audio only version. I would advise you to look a little harder, as there are numerous audio pools out there.
