Topic: Chauvet GigBar IRC? worth price of admission?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey guys since I am back I need to get some new lighting as all of my older lights are gone. I'm looking at maybe the Chauvet GigBar IRC as my first piece. Does anyone have this or recommend it? The video and reviews look pretty good, but we all know how that goes. I would like to hear from anyone that has seen or has this piece of lighting.

Secondly any suggestions on something else.

Thanks

You can check with MCM Electronics the have plenty of lights at decent prices, also Cheap lghts.com out of Houston. You can see some of my lighting on my Face Book Page Wizard Productions Corpus Christi DJ

DJ Wizzard (30 years in the game)

I have some vanilla brand flat LED PARs which are good workhorses - the sizzle comes from a Beamz Multiradiant derby effect - there is a new version of this light on the way out - Version 1 was a great bit of kit. Not sure which part of the world you are in so may not be available to you.

I also got into the whole programming/sync thing big time using SBDJ Freestyler plug in and Freestyler DMX software (with a DMX King usb - DMX interface). I know many of the lights have "music mode" but being able to programme up a couple of "showcase" songs adds another level to a set.

With the whole shift to LEDs it is an awesome time to be getting into lighting :-)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am in the U.S. and will look to see if I can find these.

I have also looked into the GigBar. It seems to give you quite a bit of kit for the price, but I am just worried about how bright it could possibly be. For just being in the background and looking great with fog, I would really consider it, but no one allows fog/haze nowadays.
I ended up putting together my own version of it by mounting a Chauvet Intimidator Spot Duo under a T bar and a Chauvet Swarm 5 fx on either side of it. Wired it up so there's just a power and DMX connection to it and put it on top of a crank-up truss. Low budget (< $1000) and it puts out just about enough light and enough variety for most small gigs. I also use FreeStyler but with a homemade USB-DMX interface (free software and the interface ended up costing $15 in parts.)
