Topic: Need help setting up my Reloop Terminal Mix 2 (WTF is WASAPI?)

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Ok, so....

Turning my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro into my DJ laptop. Here's what I did:
Brand new windows 8.1 install from scratch
All latest windows updates
Installed VDJ 8
Brought database over, successful
Plugged up my new Reloop Terminal Mix 2
Microsoft auto downloaded drivers
Opened up VDJ8, got the screen saying its recognized
Everything works as normal, but a bit of latency in the job scratch
Downloaded Reloop's ASIO driver, installed it
See latency is set to 6ms, try 2 instead
Opened up VDJ8, latency is EXACT same.
Opened up Reloop ASIO again, set it to 40 ms (TO see if this is really effecting the buffer) - NO difference.
Goto sound setup, and its set to "Terminal Mix 2 (WASAPI)"
Don't know what that is, try changing all drop downs to ""Reloop ASIO (ASIO)" - Music doesn't play, looks like play head is just shuddering, and frozen
Change latency in ASIO to something else, still nothing
Change back to "Terminal Mix 2 (WASAPI)" everything works as normal, but original problem is still there (Latency)
The setting in performance is set to "Automatic (288)" and ultralatency is set to "yes"

I'm not really sure whats happening here, but I don't think that the Reloop ASIO is being used, preventing me from changing the latency. Can someone help? Hoping one of y'all have seen this before

Thanks in advance

Uninstall Reloop ASIO. Reboot your computer.
Install Reloop ASIO.
Make sure the Reloop sound card is NOT the default sound card of your computer.
Launch VirtualDJ. Select the ASIO as a sound card for both Master & Headphones (actually the special button at the top should do that)
Choose a safe value around 6ms-10ms.

If none of the above works, then probably you have ASIO4ALL installed ? If yes, uninstall it and repeat procedure.
windows 10 maybe ? not the first time, drivers have issue, but doubt if that is the case here.

Alright, so I tried your steps,
Uninstalled Reloop ASIO via add/remove programs
Here's something weird though... If I goto device manager, under Audio Inputs And Outputs, there's both Microphone(Terminal Mix 2) and Speakers(Terminal Mix 2), both of those devices have a Microsoft Driver, under Drivers. As well, Sound,Video,Game Controllers>Terminal Mix 2 as well has a Microsoft Driver. After discovering this, I did the following:
(With the TM2 Plugged In)
Right Click>Uninstall on Sound,Video,Game Controllers>Terminal Mix 2
-This gets rid of the 2 entries under Audio Inputs And Outputs
Restart (hold on, lol i'm on the YOGA now, I have to restart, haha)

Ok, so restarted, but theres a problem right away....

If I goto Device Manager again, ALL entries that I noted before are already installed!!!
I just uninstalled all of those drivers/devices, but as soon as I restart they are already active and "Working Properly"

Also, looking at playback devices, I made the onboard speakers the Default speakers, but the Terminal Mix 2 is marked as the "Default Communications Device" with no way to turn that off....

Starting up VDJ real quick, and the ASIO driver isn't even an option (Haven't installed it back in yet)
Now I install Reloop ASIO driver, restart VDJ
Still defaults to the WASAPI soundcard, and when I put it to ASIO Windows notification box kicks an error from VirtualDJ, saying
"Virtual DJ No Sound Card, Failed to Initialize Device"

Hope this helps, any other suggestions?

Ok, I managed to turn off the "Default Communications Device" but that didn't help,

I also noticed that if I bring up Recording Devices the Terminal Mix 2 was set as default, so I changed it to Microphone, but still having the problem.

I can't seem to keep the microsoft drivers from being "uninstalled", as soon as I restart the laptop its right back where it was with the microsoft driver. I can't say that it DOESN"T work, because it actually works quite well, but there's just a lag when scratching with the job wheel that I don't like. Plus, I would like to eventually run a timecode into the input, which I know I will need to get ASIO working.

Any other suggestions would be a great help, thanks!

************ UPDATE*************

Ok, so after messing with some settings (forgot exactly what) I managed to get the ASIO drivers to work, but only when Master and Headphones are set to ASIO, I have to leave Microphone on something else (Currently: Terminal Mix 2 WASAPI)
I was messing aroud with the latency, at first I started at 40 (just to test) and it worked, but extremely laggy. Then, turned it to 2ms, which obviously didn't really work at all. Managed to get it pretty good around 6ms, THEN I turned off Ultra-Latency, and now i'm at 5ms and its pretty good! Only problem is, when I start up VDJ8, not I get an error on the bottom right notification (Windows 8.1) saying Virtualdj No Soundcard Terminal Mix 2 failed to initialize device. But its working (In my headphones at least, haven't tried master out just yet.

SHould this error be a concern? Also, when I do get my Timecodes and hook it up, i'm sure I have to map this differently, and when Microphone is set to ASIO then it goes back to the original problem of nothing working again.

At least this is a step in the right direction, now I want to take it all the way home!

Again, feed back and suggestions appreciated

EDIT: Oh yea, and I checked the Event Manager, and something called ReadyBoot was making trouble, so I disabled it, that also seemed to help

Microphone should be set to Reloop ASIO Inputs 3,4. I believe, that should be the default audio configuration too (the one that the special button in the AUDIO tab of VirtualDJ Settings is offering).
If not mistaken, the Input channels 1,2 should be for the Line Input, so if you want to use that as a Line In one, you need to add linein->Reloop ASIO Input chans 1,2. Not sure though if this Input can be used for Timecode (input signal needs to be muted , so that its not heard through the Master Output)
