You want at least 64 pads.
I use 32 for samples, 16 for loops, and more or less the rest for hot cues.
At least 8 faders, and also 8 knobs are desirable.
Faders are essential to control the individual sample volumes.
The knobs I'd like for effects, but I don't have any on my Akai APCmini,
The MPC40 looks brilliant, but for me it's just a little big.

It's likely that the very clever will use the 64 pads for samples.
That means remembering what is on each pad.

so u mean that the mpc40 it better but the only con is that its big
as i don't care for the size as i care more for the easiness and the control and options

It's 5 star.
It's also designed for Ableton, which I think supplements VDJ.
A little production is ok, we're human, and we have brains.

The volume fader thing is important, you might feel the kick drum needs to be a bit louder supporting your track, or you might want to fade it out altogether. Independent volume controls are important for each element. Elements being groups such as kick drums, hihats, scratches and synths as in the VDJ default instrument pack.

We need to grow and make our own samples, but Atomix are doing a good job getting us started.

No difference.
When I did a search for the MPC40 Google changed it to the APC40 without my noticing.
It's what I was thinking about.

Just remember pads faders knobs.
You want them all.
Everything by Akai seems to be highly rated.

Remember it needs a mapping.
If Atomix has done a definition file it's easy to map a controller to suit your needs.
I know that's the case for the APC Mini and 40, I don't know about the mk2.

I suspect that VirtualDJ and Ableton are going to strongly complement each other in the future.
The APC range are principally Ableton controllers.
This is a formidable pairing.
