Topic: How do I make a playlist with proper transitions in advance?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello to all the DJs, wannabes and groupies out there!

I'm gonna DJ on a party this Thursday (for free, dont worry!) and instead of using some traditional music player I wanted to use some sort of DJ software. I'm just gonna play regular songs as they are, so I don't have any need for advanced techniques, but I wanted something that gives me the ability to make the transitions between the songs smooth, and maybe adjust the volume for the different tracks a little.

So, I downloaded Virtual DJ version 7.4.2 Home FREE, and at first it seemed like a pretty easy program to use for me. I dragged songs to the two decks and crossfaded between the songs. So far, so good. But, what I would like is to be able to make a whole playlist and in advance decide how and where the transitions between the tracks will be. For example, if I have a playlist with Song A, Song B, Song C and Song D, I want to be able to play them all after one other automatically. But if Song C is five minutes long and i just want to play two and a half minutes from it, I would like to be able to sort out in advance that it's gonna go to Song D when it's at the 2:30 mark.

This seems like the most basic function, that every amateur home DJ would want, but I can't figure out how to solve it?

I hope you'll get my question, I'm tired as shit so I might have been a bit unclear.

Thanks a lot in advance!

V7 is no actual anymore.
Please dl V8 home free and check the automix editor

Thanks! This is just what I needed!

However, is there any way to adjust the volume to equal out the differences?

not sure what you mean.
your tracks should be nearly the same db anyway.
perhaps autogain set to yes in the options may help
