I select the root of my drive and right click batch--add to search db and nothing happens no files are added. I use to use vdj 4.3 and it worked fine added all the files to my database, I don't know how to make it work in vdj 8. Is it going to sort music and video files on its own, also where would I go to see my database without searching to just see the list of files and videos?

Sorry was typing from cell phone.
How do you see your whole database at one time? Can you do that in VDJ 8 like you could in VDJ 4.3? Or you can only search the whole database?

search * will get all files

And you can do a rightclick on the drive that holds your music and select "recurse".
A third solution would be to create a filter folder with the action:
exists = 1
That'll show all files in your database.
If you want to see all analyzed files in your database use the action:
exists = 1 and isscanned = 1

I tried recurse and it works, the only problem is as soon as I click off of that drive and I go back to it, I have to recurse again. Since I want to have a video folder and a music folder and they all contain subfolders I have to recurse everytime I switch between the 2. Would the filter solve that issue?

Yes, a filter (or just 2 filter folders) would solve that issue.
BTW: Keep in mind that "Recurse" does not only shows all files in the subfolders, but it also seeks for new files on each subfolder as well.
Therefore it consumes much more CPU and that's why it disables itself by default.
In contrast a "filter folder" just queries the database which is much much faster instead of opening every single folder and looking what's inside.
I hope this info helps! :)

Filter folder for video:
exists = 1 and isscanned = 1 and type = video
Audio filter folder
exists = 1 and isscanned = 1 and type = audio
exists = 1 and isscanned = 1 and type = video
Audio filter folder
exists = 1 and isscanned = 1 and type = audio

Ok that filter would work. But when I go to my music folder and right click go to batch --> add to search db nothing happens, is that normal? The hard drive doesn't even spin to show it's adding files.

You should do that to the "Root" directory that holds all your media files.
By "Root" we mean the directory underneath which you have all your media files.
So if your files are on "C:\Music" then C:\Music is the "Root" and not your system's "My Music" folder...
Also if all the files are allready in the search db the drive won't spin that much since VDJ doesn't have to read the info from the files.

You can just add select folders to the search db?
Posted Mon 16 Mar 15 @ 9:04 pm
Yes you can, but why not add all folders to the search?
Posted Mon 16 Mar 15 @ 10:15 pm
Well because when I add the root to the search db it adds the bunch of wav files that come with windows and all the other irrelevant music or video files on my computer. I rarely search for files, I rather see a list of my music library and my video library, what would be the best way to accomplish that?

If these files are in a root that you have selected, you can select all the files that you don't want, and right click, select remove from search DB.

....or you could create root folders such as;
musicdatabase
videodatabase
karaokedatabase
then put the appropriate folders underneath, then, simple right click on one of these to add new tunes to the appropriate database. No need to deal with Windows or any other rubbish. ;-)
