hi!
I use earplugs because of the loud music, so I need to raise the level of my headphones and i can't
I hoped "headphones gain" could help me to get some extra db, i don't care if it's with some extra distortion or lowering the quality, just for monitoring, but I don't get how it works, and I can't get any extra db.
:(

I had a problem in a club with my headphone levels. I bought one of these and it was a perfect fix.

@cetopi, if your neighbours are playing music so loud that you have to use earplugs at home, you should report them to the correct authorities.
Why not wear the headphones without using earplugs? The headphones would then be louder.
What headphones (exactly) are they? Some brands / models are more efficient than others and will provide a louder output for the same input.
What's powering the headphones (what are they plugged into)? If they're not being fed with enough power, that could be your issue.
Best thing though, is to keep levels down when playing music at home. You don't want to damage your hearing.

i don't have a problem at home, it's when I'm invited to play some music in pubs. I like it but I can't stand the loud music anymore, I'm too old I guess, so i wear earplugs, then i can't hear the headphones properly.
It's not a brand problem, maybe I could find some more efficient, or buy a headphone amplifier, but I wanted to solve it with software without adding extra gear.
The headphones gain option seemed to be the perfect solution, boost until I hear them don't matter if it gets distorted, but it's not working.

You're using the home version in a public setting? This is actually against company policy. What mixer are you using, or are you just coming out of the laptop? What is the headphone gain set at?

I'm using just my laptop and a audio usb pendrive with asio4all for monitoring, everything works fine, the volume is enough for a normal use, but my needs are odd.
I believe the licence is valid while you don't earn money, and I don't get paid for djing.

I wrote a message in the bug forum, but a moderator closed it and told me it's not a bug.
the manual only says:
headphonesGain - Set the gain applied to the headphones output
no range stated, default 0.5, and that seems to be the top, 100% of it.
anything between 0 and 0.5 just lowers the volume, anything above does nothing, and above 10 just mutes the output, even though I don't see a difference between 0.5 and 9.
well, then I'm not understanding "headphones gain", what am I missing?

Ok, to clarify I closed your other post because at the moment the bug can not be validated and you already have a post here, you didn't need it in two places.
I also said that if the bug is confirmed then we can move this post to the Bugs forum.
I have just tested and changed the gain from 0.5 to 1.0 and I can hear the difference.
It also appears you are not running the most recent version of the software. In order for the development team to correctly diagnose any issues you will need to be running the most recent build. 2174 currently.
So firstly update to the latest version, if you are not running it already. Then test again.
If still an issue or if someone else reports the same I will gladly move this post for you.
Thanks for understanding.

my version is 8.0.0 pc build 2174.953
to hear the changes I change the settings and then touch the headphone volume while playing.
-1 I'd say it's muted, at 0 you hear something very low, from 0 to 0.5 there's a huge leap, I'd say 90% of the range, but you're right, from 0.5 to 1 there's a very subtle increase, that 10%
from 1 to 10 i can't hear any difference, not the (insane?) boost i was looking for, and above 10 stops working.
so maybe 1 it's the top, and it works more like an attenuator, not a gain knob, I can't add any gain, only subtract.

USB pendrive???? Maybe try a controller or mixer that has a headphone output. Maybe there's a limit to what you can expect from this pendrive.

this solution works perfect for me, it's small and cheap (again, I don't get paid, it's not my business), it has the features I need (nothing), and without earplugs i can get plenty of volume, but with these in my ears:

it's not enough.

That is the Sin behind a Earplug, that he shield you for the loud dB of Music
When you will hear more louder Music with Earplugs ,then you got to use special Earplugs that a maked from a Eardoc.
Some Frequenzy was cut by the Plugs.
I think with a better Headphone you Safe your Ears and here more of the Music
iself have a Shure SRH 750 DJ and are very happy with this DJ Headphone.
Before that i have a Ortofone o2 and was great too.
Spend some Money for some Good DJ-Headphones,than you are lucky

sorry, but i don't understand you very well, english is not my first language.
custom earplugs can sound better and be more comfortable, but that's not my problem, my earplugs work fine, in fact very well, i do recommend them for the price.
And my headphones work fine, loud and clear, and my usb card work fine.
I was asking for something that it turns out to be strange, i know, i want a maybetooloud headphone output, i don't care if I get distortion, or a compressor or a limiter so i can push it even further. I can get that recording at home, using a DAW, or with hardware.
When I saw the "headphones gain" option i thought that was it, but it only attenuates the headphones output, I can't add any extra db.
:(

English is my second language,my First ist German (Deutsch)
A Okay ,my Mistake I understand now that you will a louder output for your Headphone bye the Software
or eventually with a Pre Amp for Headphones when not a Tool gives.
Think you can Test this VST-Effect Plugin, iself use it with this VDJ-Options :
autogain=auto
zerodB=0.75
in loudmax:
Threshold -12dB
Output -3dB
Download:
http://loudmax.blogspot.de/
Installation:
.dll in = Own Data /VDJ/Plugins/Soundeffect
Activate in Skin under Mastereffect

When this not help, than i think you must have a better Soundcard with Higain, or a Mixer/Midicontroller or preamp for Headphone etc.
Do you use a Mixer ,or does you go direct withe the cable from Soundcard on a PA (Public Adress)

pushing a limiter would help, any brickwall, or a compressor with output, definitely, but can the effect be applied to the headphone instead to the master? I don't think so.
If I can't solve it with soft, I'll need some hard, I'm already looking for something, but...
