Ok, so curiosity has got the better of me....
Out of all those that are colour tagging songs in VDJ8, what system are you working to?
Tagging colour by BPM, Genre, Popularity, Year, Rating, Key etc...
What system are you using and why? No right or wrong answer just curious as to how you guys are doing it? I was thinking of doing it by genre, Kind of.... Like R&B, Hip-Hop and Grime all the same colour coming under "Urban".
etc

I haven't bothered doing it at all.
I think it would be better if the colours could be assigned automatically, based on our criteria. Too much work doing it all manually. :-)

I use color tagging to highlight explicit lyrics. Those lyrics are not appropriate for some gigs.
I also use it for files that I have special edits or such that I wouldn't want in a normal playlist.
With the colors, I can look quickly and see these files without having to have read comment fields, etc.

I use two methods. One is to use a virtual folder to color tracks of a specific genre. If the track is normal video it's shades of green. The bolder the color the higher the energy. If the track has a still image it gets shades of yellow. If the track has lyrics it's shades of red, and if the video has a slide show it's shades of blue.
The second method is for virtual folders of dance music. I color the music by it's "heat". High energy tracks have the reds. Medium energy has the yellows. Low energy has the blue colors.
I'm in early development so I'm sure I'll be tweaking the process. I wish for more pastel colors and a bigger pallet to hold them.
Coloring tracks is an excellent method of organizing music for quick "at a glance" selection. It helps when working fast.

I'm only experimenting with it at this stage as well. So far I've got green=good i.e they're old/new school crowd favs. My thinking is that if I'm stuck looking for something to play next I can search by BPM, genre, harmonic etc. and as long as it's green I can just whack it on quickly. So when putting sets together or just playing round, if I find a gem that I often overlook, then I can colour it green so that it has less chance of staying overlooked.
Red is my to do colour. So if I'm playing a track and I find that it needs manual tweaks with BPM, CBG, duplicate checking etc. and I don't have the time there and then, then I just colour it red and move on. Then on my downtime I can go through my reds so that I'm not caught out next time. I've also used pink and yellow but can't actually remember what I used them for??
In my opinion the green colouring is really working for me so far. It's great that I can search via whatever and don't necessarily have to rely on most played=most popular.
Hope that helps.

Happy New year 2ya'll.
This sounds very usefull, but i have 2 questions:
1. @ wicked. are you saying that coloring a track is gonna f**k it up? I don't get what you're trying to say.
2. is it possible to map/script/just make it happen on a custom button? If yes, then, right click opens a menu type thing and you can choose from a few presets:-)

Hey Wicked, I don't know what a CBG is, so I can't answer that directly. But I,m guessing 70% of my tracks are colored, and they work fine.:)
