I have my music database which I have analysed with vdj. I have spent many days and nights fine tuning my id3 tags, categorising my songs, and generally getting things how I want them.
Now I have been having a play with Rekordbox, which wants me to analyse my songs again. Right now I have no intention of doing my whole library, as that is a big job, and I am only thinking of using rekordbox as an emergency backup system.
i have analysed a couple of hundred tracks through rekordbox and all is well. I have then closed redordbox and opened vdj and checked my original database. I have a filter folder set up to show any tracks that have not been analysed, and the tracks that I analysed in rekordbox are not shown.
Does this mean that I can analyse my vdj library with rekordbox without it changing anything.

I thought someone here may have already done it.

Unless recordbox manipulates V8's database.xml, (Which I don't think it does) I think you're safe.
I don't know how quick RB is at scanning but set it to scan a couple of thousand tracks through the night, each night and it'll be done soon enough.

I think you are right about it not changing the vdj database. There is a checkbox in RB that enables it to make changes to the actual tracks, but as long as this is not checked, I think all is good.
I have scanned a few more songs with RB so that I can have a play today.
My next step is to try and get 2 laptops on the go at once. One connected by usb running vdj, and the other connected by LAN running rekordbox. And both laptops connected the the Pioneer setup.

Your on the right track with this. If it doesn't move/rename your tracks, VDJ will be just fine. Even if different programs can read other databases, they usually don't modify them. An example is VDJ can read iTunes and Serato databases, but it does not change them.
