When doing weddings, in particular, I need a backup system for my main laptop. I have been using a phone, however I though a old laptop might be useful. I have a Vista 1200Mhz celeron, with 2gb of ram, this could be used with by the keyboard in an emergency, run through my Peavey 10 mixer. However the cpu is running a in the red, and the audio is stuttering on loading a new song. Can I get hold of say VDJ6, and also use my product key on a old version?
Note: I don't want two good laptops with me due to security concerns.

I don't no what I 'm doing at the momennt. I could upgrade ram to 3gb..it has the 32bit operating system constraint, so 4 is out of the question. It is the cpu which is hitting the red zone. The laptop looks good..but is crap.
I'm toying with the idea of the freeware Mixx.
Also I did fancy being able to do karaoke in an emergency, may be winamp with a plug in?
Would Vdj supply old versions which can run on rubbish laptops?

1. I'd suggest to install win7 or better win XP. Don't use Vista! It will cause problems. I had to play on a vista laptop once and got stuttering, sound drops etc... was no good at all and the hardware should have been good enough.
2. Try again with V7 (or 8)

I'm even thinking of a linux operatring system since they are good on old hardware.

Hm a win7 upgrade would cost more than this good looking crap laptop is worth. Maybe xp?!

id go xp in a old lappy

BTW, VDJ won't run on linux.

It is about 5 years old, however it is a cut down budjet model (X58C) with a cpu soldered to the motherboard, which prevents an upgrade. I did not realise what Asus had done to this laptop when I bought it as a backup.

Virtualdj 7.4.1 is running at 100% cpu (bashing the red), and stuck halfway through loading a song.
Maybe xp is the answer.
I'm tempted to try linux mint, and mixxx. I want to go on the internet whilst my main laptop does the gig.

Maybe vdj would run on linux under wine, but I doubt it would be any good. Maybe vdj is not the answer when looking for a backup on a crap laptop.

According to the windows task manager it is using 92& of the cpu power, and has been for the last 30min, whilst ever so slowly loading a single song! LOL

Additionally to vista, celeron CPUs are low-end hardware. They too could cause problems.

I normally display the bpm, key in the browser but have hid these columns and its running ok..maybe. I darenot try karaoke.

I've hid the album column in the browser, and dumped all the effects except the brake...its loading the songs fast..ish!
I could use this as a back up, and if it got nicked it would not break my heart. In the options I've disabled most of the auto features, msn, update and stuff like that. It works!!!

I normally work in front of quite large crowds, and cannot afford breakdowns.
Can anyone, and expect to work?
It would be great if Atomix configured a stripped down backup software for crap laptops which will only to be used in an emergency.
Call it VDJ7 Emergency BackUp

I 'm pushing it a little, its on auto play whilst I'm downloading on the internet. The vdj waves became jerky, maybe I need a resource lighter browser, I'm using Firefox. My object is internet access plus a good backup. Its working!

Using the tool in vdj addons I can optimise the laptop in 10 seconds, hence moving from internet mode. I have heard a few glitches but it beats a phone or mp3 player as a backup device, and has a lower value than my mobile phone.

Its just occurred to me that they still do the very early version Atomixmp3, and sell it, that might be my solution, no karaoke, but a better backup than a phone.
