Topic: DDJ-SX Censor button not working correctly?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Anyone else see the censor button not working as intended on the DDJ-SX?
Mapped as: dump while_pressed
does a reverse, then when you let go, it just goes forward, as if slip was not enabled, and it plays the part you were trying to skip.
I tried enabling slip and pressing the slip button while censoring and a bunch of combinations with the shift key, no change.

Note: tried mapping my keyboard key 'x' as: dump while_pressed, and it works as intended.

Is this likely a specific problem on my system?

if I understand you correctly you could do something like this for that functionality

slipmode on ? dump while_pressed : down ? slipmode on & dump on : dump off & slipmode off

if you have slipmode enabled it will just dump, if you don't have it enabled it will turn slipmode on and dump the track, when you release slipmode will be restored to 'off'.

doing it this way will ensure that if you have slipmode on for another reason it will remain on after you dump.

** I don't know whether it's "slipmode" or "slip_mode" as it's not in the wiki so you may need to try both **

You should not have "SLIP" active when you're trying to "dump"/"censor" a part of your track...
If you have SLIP active then you should press "SHIFT+CENSOR" which is mapped as "reverse while_pressed"

The correct way to use "Censor" button is to press it with SLIP mode off.
If you want to have the censor button automatically disable the the SLIP mode for you then you must change your CENSOR button to this:

slip_mode ? down ? slip_mode off & dump on : dump off & slip_mode on : dump while_pressed

It will automatically disable SLIP mode if it's enabled before dumping, perform the dump and then re-anble the SLIP mode...
If SLIP mode is not active then it will just perform the dump

Thanks for your message, I tried what you suggested and it still behaved the same except that slip mode was always enabled after pressing censor. So I noticed that something was wrong with dump itself as it was not working even on my keyboard with the DDJ-SX connected. I tried several variations like: slip & dump while_pressed; slip_mode on & dump while_pressed; slip_mode and dump while_pressed, even though dump should act like slip is on while it's active anyway.

Then I got the idea to look in the other settings to see if I turned off dumping as an option, and found that there is no such option, so on a whim I unchecked "safe mode" under Performances > Sound Card > Latency. Reset the censor button to: dump while_pressed and that seems to have fixed it. Interesting because I have been wondering why it wasn't working since I got it, but now everything is fine!

Edit: PhantomDeejay just saw your post, did not get to try your suggestion, but everything is good now. Thank you.

bug or known limitation?? Anyone want to try enabling safe mode and see if dump still works?

You should ALWAYS disbale "Safe Mode"
"Safe Mode" is an option that's needed only by some very old hardware.

Hi Phantom, I have just bought a Pioneer DDJ-SX controller and would like to use it with Virtual DJ...is this possible, and if so, could you instruct me on how to proceed

Sorry bout this being in the wrong thread...

I believe you have been told already to start your own thread, but anyway since the answer to your question is simple I'll answer you here:

The ONLY (and I mean ONLY) way to make your DDJ-SX work with VirtualDj is to buy VirtualDJ PRO FULL
http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html

In the latest version (7.4.1) DDJ-SX is nativelly supported by the software and you won't need to do anything else. Just install VirtualDJ, install Pioneer ASIO drivers if you haven't done so already, and you're ready to go... :)

If (and I mean only IF) you want to try something different from the default mapper then there are a couple of custom mappers available on our downloads section that you can try.
However they ARE NOT NEEDED for the unit to function properly with VirtualDJ.

No, I haven't been told to start a new thread, and I apologise for posting out of thread. This is my first post and time on virtual dj community. Thank you for answering my question though. I will purchase the pro edition now.
Just wanted to clarify it was possible to use the software with the ddj-SX prior to purchasing it.

My apologies for the confusion. Cheers.
