Hi, I had Virtual DJ Free Home Version downloaded from the Apple Store. It was not updated in a while so I checked the site http://www.virtualdj.com/products/homefree.html and I was surprised to see a version 7.4 there but the one in the store is still 7.0.5 (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/virtualdj-home/id417934534).
Any reason for that?
Thanks!

Can you explain why it's an Apple question?
Why would someone ask Apple for which version is in the Apple App Store? It's the developer (Atomix) who puts the software on there, which Apple only approves before releasing but not much more.
Since the HOME edition in the App Store doesn't have any built in upgrade method to circumvent Apple's 30% take on revenue, I'm assuming it was a special build by Atomix, which hasn't been updated since August 2011.
It is clear that Atomix is using the App Store for only marketing VirtualDJ and not using the Apple App Store as it is meant to be, which is to help sell software to the entire MAC user base and keep the software up to date! Atomix hasn't updated it in the App Store since August 29th, 2011 and doesn't have the Professional Version available in the App Store, which isn't the intent of the App Store, and indicates that Atomix is using it for Marketing only, which isn't the App Store's purpose.
As a MAC user, the App Store has been awesome in keeping a lot of software up to date! So the question from the user was valid. The answer is correct that it is best to download VDJ from the VDJ website and not even use the App Store.

It could be that the Free version has not needed any updates since 7.0.5. Many updates add new controllers and features which don't work in the free version. VDJ 7.x is rock solid.

FYI, 7.4 is what Atomix has on it's website as the latest for the Home Edition for MAC, so the Home Edition for MAC in the Apple App Store isn't the most current version available.

I've read several negative posts on Apple's App Store, with several users complaining of a POPUP for a newer version but no way to download it. Again, the purpose of the App Store is to have a place to sell software AND to keep it up to date.
If Atomix is going to use the Apple App Store, they should keep the version there consistent with what is available on the Atomix website, otherwise they should remove it from the Apple App Store, especially if the software is coming up saying there is an upgrade and no easy way to do that from the Apple App Store.
Confusion for users equals bad user experience equals a potential customer not spending money to upgrade to pro or pay the monthly premium membership fee in the future.

FYI, I don't really care. Mine works fine. No need to get worked up. I just offered a possible explanation, which may be wrong, as you've pointed out. Wish I had a cookie for ya.

Oh.....My.....God, that's not what the app store is for? This is a crime against humanity. An affront to all that is holy. Well, we need to get right over there and fix that, by golly.

go to VDJ web forum, discover all the addons and free info, discover all the powerful features
of the Pro version, download most recent version ......
where's the bad part ??
yes VDJ IS marketing VDJ, and possibly not even concerned for poor little Apple

Of course VDJ doesn't care about Apple, that wasn't the point. The bad part is if the VDJ software has issues because it hasn't been updated, users who try it out will be frustrated with the experience and never get to the point of wanting to buy the software. Just like all other operating systems, MAC updates their software all the time. At some point VDJ in the Apple App Store will no longer run on the MAC.
Case in point:
Changelog 7.4.1 November 14
fixed potential crash on startup with MacOS 10.9 Mavericks
I'm not arguing that the best thing isn't for anyone to download the software directly from VDJ, only stating that the original poster had a valid question in regards to why the software in the Apple App Store isn't current. If VDJ want's to ignore the Apple App Store, that is their prerogative, and theirs alone, not you or me. Providing feedback that something might be broke, is good regardless.
Your opinion is valid that the user should download it from VDJ and is just as valid as the original poster asking VDJ to answer his question or my opinion that VDJ should keep the software on the Apple App Store current for their own sake regarding marketing.
I am curious, how much software have you gotten from the Apple App Store on your MAC?

We point to Apple on this because they don't allow us to update to new VirtualDJ on their Appstore anymore.
it's a long and complicated subject, but the bottom line is: Apple won't accept new updates of VirtualDJ in the AppStore anymore, because Apple doesn't want us to offer ContentUnlimited to our users, or at least not without paying back 40% to Apple, which of course we cannot since most of this money is used to pay the label and artists.
We always offer the latest updates from our website, so you always can download the latest version from us.

Now you know why is not updated in AppStore and why is better to download our software from our site.

Same old Apple and the main reason why many subscription services avoid them and went back to web only...
