Topic: How can I split headphone audio with DJ2GO Controller, laptop and USB speakers?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello!

My parents recently bought me the Ion DJ2GO Controller with a 3.5mm split cable so I can play around with mixing using the VirtualDJ LE Lite software on my laptop, little did they know I own USB monitors and the connection couldn't work with the cable (as it is USB and not 3.5mm).

I've been looking up Female USB -> Male adapters to use with the split cable and speakers on the internet but the general consensus appears to be that it won't solve the problem, I'm basically trying to work out what I'd need to purchase so that I can split the speaker and headphone audio into two channels so that I can actually start mixing, haha.

I've heard a sound card may be the necessary option, however I've looked them up on the internet and I have no idea how they'd work or which to buy or anything like that, if any of you guys could help me out it'd be awesome.

Thanks in advance for the help!

If not mistaken, the Lite version of VirtualDJ that comes with the DJ2GO allows you to use 2 different sound cards (one for main/master output and a second one for pre-listening). In that case, open CONFIG and in the Sound Setup tab have...
Inputs->None
Output->Headphones
Sound card -->2x Sound cards and choose your USB sound card from the 1st list and the sound card of your computer from the 2nd list.

Plug your headphones to the Sound Output socket of your computer and your USB speakers normally connected to USB.

If the above setup is not available (not offered from the Lite version), then most likely you will need to upgrade your Lite version to Pro Full, as there will be no easy way to use/combine your USB speakers with any other USB card.

The alternative is to buy a pair of PC speakers that do have a 3.5mm jack connection, and use those with your splitter cable.

I don't particularly have the money to spend on another set of speakers and I'd really like to mix with my monitors preferably but thanks for providing a sensible alternative, as obvious as it is I didn't even think about it haha.

I'm looking at the config settings and that all seems possible, the only thing I'm wondering is what would count as the laptop's sound card? The two options for Primary Sound Driver are currently Speakers (USB Audio Codec) and Speakers (High Definition Audio Device), are either of these the laptop's sound card?

I don't actually own a separate sound card yet either, I'm looking to purchase one if it means I'll be able to get this to work, do you know if the cheap ones on this page would work alright?

Thanks for your fast help guys!

There is no need to buy another sound card if the Lite version offers you the ability to use 2xSound cards
You will need to choose USB Audio Codec from the 1st list and Speakers High Definition Audio Device from the 2nd list

Worked perfectly! Thank you!! :D
