Topic: Cueing up tracks in a mix without the 'audience' hearing it??

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all,

This question will have been asked 400 times already but I can't locate it!!!

I am fairly new to Virtual DJ and have just a laptop and headphones.

I believe I have got a basic tracklist that I can mix proficiently. However, every time I want to cue up the next song and ensure I have the right bars looped, I have to crossfade over to the other deck - meaning that, live, it sounds completely disjointed as I get the loop and then fade over to the live deck.

I was wondering what I need to do in order to play the live track/mix out of my laptop speakers and be able to check the other deck in my headphones?

THANK YOU!!!

You need to check out the wiki, which has a FAQ section.

It's not easily seen by noobs on their first visit, but it is there!

CHEERS DUDE!!!!

Is there a recommended spec for the USB soundcard?? There's ones on Amazon from a couple of quid up to £ 30?

When I get more experienced I will be looking to upgrade all kit including VDJ system but for now would be happy with the basics????

One I am looking at:

Chassis: External
Interface: USB
Features: 3D Surround support
Inputs: 3.5mm line in microphone
Outputs: 3.5mm line out headphone/speaker

I think at the basic level, anything will do.

Maybe look into buying some USB headphones rather than an external box that you'd have to plug into. Kills the maximum quantity of winged animals with the minimum amount of projectiles.

Thanks Groovin!

I got the solution my brother !!!!
Go on Config
On "Sound Setup" since you only have a laptop and headphones, select "None" on the Inputs section, in Outputs select "Headphones" and select what option would suit you best. Either select listening to the "master" sound on the right channel and the "headphones" on the left OR viceversa.
Now for you to pre-cue the song that is not playing, make sure the volume of the respective deck is all the way down (or the crossfader is all the way on the song the audience is listening). Make sure that the song you pre-cue flows with the one already playing (you know....nudging, pitch blend, bmp, etc)

Enjoy pre-cue'ing !!
