Topic: Decent low light camera for dance floor video,

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Imagine if you will... 10 feet of truss with 2-32 inch truss mounted led tv monitors (one on each end of the truss). Ok I love using the visualizations and video on VDJ but would like to be able to use the "Camera" plugin to display the people on the dance floor on the two video monitors. My question is; is there a reasonably price usb camera that is good enough in low light conditions (such as on the dance floor) that would work well for this application?

depends on what you mean by reasonable price ..
the usb "security cam" kind of cameras will work very well in low lid environments, but cost a bit.. 200 dollar +

Also heard that the MS HD LifeCam and Logitec HD Pro does a decent job, from djs streaming videos from club gigs.
But havent had a chance to test those.

Its fairly common to stream videos from club gigs, so maybe more guys here have some tips ;)

I think the best way of doing it with todays tech is to use a digital SLR camera that has remote USB video view/capture.

The camera itself needn't be an expensive model but you can fit an f1.4 lens which will work well in low light.

Things with tiny lenses like webcams won't give good results because they don't have enough light gathering ability.

Can you share a model of the camera you are talking about so I get the idea of which one I can connect via USB to show the dancefloor? The Logitech does not do too well.

Who, me? That post was made three years ago (please don't dig up dead threads) and I don't know what's on the market now.

Just do some research via Google. There are probably far more options now than there were three years ago.

Like I said, avoid things with small lenses (phones, webcams, small cameras) if you want good results in low light. There's a reason pro cameras have big lenses.

I have and still can't find anything decent that shows the dancefloor via USB. Wanted someone that has something to share the camera they use. VDJ don't know what camera works in low light.

I've used a Sony EVI-D70 with a usb video adapter with good success.

Thank you, I see them used for cheap on Amazon. On YouTube cannot find much on it. Do you have videos uploaded somewhere showing the quality at a club or low light?

I don't do clubs, private work and schools for the most part.

This camera is a beast, Ive had it on a pole mount and up on top of the rear projection screens with great success and quality.
The zoom is phenomenal and I have the control hard wired so it sits on my console. It also has presets so you can hit one button such as entry or floor or podium in an instant without fumbling.

Never had a need for a movie light if that answers your question.
