Topic: Best codec settings?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Is there any advantage or improvement on sound quality changing the codec settings away from default?

Is there other codecs not listed that I can download to improve sound quality or performance?

Cheers

I would say that the stock codecs would probably be the best tested, most reliable, and best bet for performance. Only reason I would change one out is if I was having an issue with certain file types. I had to change the avi one, to get some karaoke video files to load correctly. I haven't noticed any difference in the sound quality or responsiveness of my controller after having do so though.

I have change .mov and .mo3 to QuickTime I haven't tested sound quality yet.

There are many mp3 codecs such as LAME that may sound better.

If I recall correctly VDJ 7 had improvements in sound quality. I think that it may have to do with the stock codecs and vdj playing nice together. May be possible that one codec sounds better and another performs better, like loading and sound quality when scratching. I'm no expert, but it doesn't hurt to try things out. What works for you and your setup might not work as well for someone else. Maybe the experts on here will chime in. I'm curious myself.

VDJ uses LAME .. and its top of the class.
Changing codec shouldnt matter anyways, it just decodes mp3 to raw data in memory, that VDJ uses to play out to the OS internal sound core.

The improved sound engine in v7 is about 32 bit engine, and not codec.

Nice. Thanks for the info.

Great thank you.
