Topic: Recording/Fast-forwarding a Mix

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi there,

So I've been creating a lot of mixes for people between 30-60 minutes on the free version of virtual DJ (I am a beginner to DJing, but have a lot great music). I am not recording these in front of a live audience, rather I am uploading them to soundcloud for other people to hear. Instead of having to sit through an hour of music, is there a way I can skip to where I want to transition from one song to the next so that I don't have to sit and wait to play through every single song? Basically I want to fast-forward through songs but have the end product play through the entire song.

Thanks

You want to fast forward whilst recording, but have the whole thing at the end?

No - if you're recording a 30 minute mix, it'll take 30 mins to record. Likewise for 60 mins.

DJ software is designed to be used live. You could potentially construct a mix faster by using other software.

Software such as Mixmeister allows you to insert tracks onto a timeline to make a mix.

It could also be done in a similar way with Ableton Live. The tracks would just be inserted into position along a time line, and the mix crossover points adjusted. To get good results though, you may well find that it actually takes longer this way.

Also Pioneer have some software called MIXTRAX which works in a similar way to Mixmeister. You import tracks, the software analyses the songs for tempo, key etc. then creates a mix for you. You can choose from different mixing styles, and the result can be saved to an MP3.

The software is available free for both Mac and PC (Windows) and also as an app (not free) for iPad, iPod Touch & iPhone.
