Topic: Now my thoughts on the Stanton SCS.4DJ, plus Bose Companion 2 Series 2

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

First let me clear up my confusion over the video feature, it will play MP4's from the system menu but not through the mixer making it essentially useless as a feature to me. I would like to see Gibson make a next gen version with the ability to actually mix mp4's and karaoke zip files and add an hdmi output for it, that would would simply be an awesome added feature set.
Anyway, I bought the SCS.4DJ as a backup and dinner music system and for that it was well worth the $170 I paid for it on ebay. I did find some cons though. For one, there is no folder/ sub folder browsing, the browser view is just one long list. I like that it reads my ipod but it took over a week to analyse the 50gb on it (analysed about 1gb on a 4gb flash drive over the computer in hardly any time at all). Another beef is the master gain, compared to my NS6 the volume is extremely low. One minor gripe is the search function, which is good overall using a keyboard and is necessary if you're using a large drive, but it only allows you to type in around 10 or so characters.
Other than those things it's a pretty solid unit, it's nowhere near a replacement for VDJ and my NS6 but that's not why I bought it anyway. It only weighs a few pounds and the jogs are almost as responsive as the NS6. It does have keylock, with the newest firmware it has user adjustable gain levels, auto dj mode works excellent for dinner music, and the effects are decent enough. What more can I say really? As a backup unit this is going to serve me well I do believe.

As for my Bose Companion 2 series 2, got these off ebay too but bought to use a reference monitors behind the facade. For being computer speakers these little guys blow me away, as always Bose packs a big punch in a little package, I just wasn't quite prepared for the big bass response. I can't think of anything bad about them at all, perfect!!!
