Intro: I own an hc4500 and djm-3000 mixer. Now I'm looking to upgrade to a midi controller with 4 channels interface to the computer. Back then Numark seemed like the brand to avoid. So I sticked to Denon and Pioneer
Question:
DDJ-SX vs Numark NS7 II ?
I don't mind the price differences. Sure spinning plates looks attractive, but I don't care about that feature.
My main concern is sound quality, performance and the ability to play 4 channels from a computer.
Which one would you recommend? Is Numark any good now?

Considering that the NS7 II is yet to be released, you only have one choice currently. No one will know which is better until there is some hands-on testing done on both units, but then it will still come down to personal preference.
It is fair to say that sound quality will be comparable between both units.

At least have a release date (which is synonymous with reliability and commitment) ... I own a Pioneer DDJ-SX which so far has been excellent in almost all aspects of quality and design, equipment checks will wait could be a good option to update ...

Obviously I can't speak for the NS7II but I have an SX and I am totally in love with it.
I had an NS6 before that and while its a quality device, even sturdier than the SX with its all metal construction (SX is only metal on the top really), I will never ever miss it in any way as long as I have an SX. To be fair however I was always a Pioneer guy for my DJ gear (except for turntables).

Does it work well with virtual dj? are you limited to the amount of features you can use as oppose to serato?
I noticed there were two users with different mapping. Which one would you recommend?

Greetings, works well with VDJ, but with serato works much better, as it was built for use with the software, the response speed is better with serato, I use the native mapper, though both are very good, as a matter of taste ...

2 Features im concerned about, that i would be able to do with hc-4500 on virtual dj
- Search (moving through song without losing track of the vertical line where the peak of the bass usually resides) sorry if this comes off confusing
- Automatic loop fix within the horizontal line. (I tried doing that with serato and it was more difficult getting a perfect 4/8/16 beat loop)

you unfortunately can't get the loop to quantize to the beat... You can fast forward keeping in sync though.
try mapping this to the button that triggers the search mode
toggle 'search'
then on the jog
var "grid_slide" ? adjust_cbg : var 'search' ? param_smaller 0 ? goto -4 : goto +4 : touchwheel
if that doesn't work, change 0 to 50% or 0%

Don't believe that because the NS-6 or NS-7 are better built due to having a metal base. i own the DDJ-SX , and NS-6 and NS-7 and I have had more problems with the Numarks to date. The buttons on the NS-6 break off really easy. The platter motor I replaced twice on the NS-7. So far nothing to speak of from the Pioneer. It's day will come too. My son also uses the Pioneer and has no problem since it came out.

I must admit the NS7 II looks damn good I like the RGB led pads, capacitive touch eq kill knobs and the 24bit spec. When I read the 24bit spec on the NS7 II I searched the web to find out the bit ratio on the DDJ SX (I own) and could not confirm if the DAC are 16bit or 24bit. Can anyone else confirm DDJ-SX bit ratio on the DAC.
I must say the DDJ-SX sounds nice and warm compared to my previous units Denon MC6000 and M-Audio Xponent. I have not used any recent gear from Numark but previous service issues makes me leary regarding any current Numark gear.
Had the NS7 II been a Pioneer product with the features and specs its toting I would have put in my pre-order.
The NS7 II is a well designed controller I must say. I would let everyone else ginnie pig it first and/or rent it before commiting so you can hear what it really sounds like and what the services issues are. To me a spinning plater like that is asking for service trouble. Then again these controllers seem to be disposable as our community seems to want the latest and greatest all the time. By the time the unit wears out you would probably buy a new unit anyway.
I am with Frank I love my DDJ-SX. I am curious to hear the fidelity increase with VDJ8.

If you DJ in really dark environments, the DDJ midi pads are freaking bright. I really don't link everyone putting blue LED's on electronics, clocks, cable boxes. I love the look but its very blinding. Hopefully there is now a way to adjust this.

I used SeratoDJ since VDJ didn't work correctly at the time, the sound quality wasn't that great. Between that, the midi pads, and the left pitch slider so squished between the left platter and volume control I took it back. I do have 2 NS7's and love how all the knobs and sliders are mirrored from side to side, sound quality is awesome, illumination is redish.
thanks,
David
