This product just seems kinda unnecessary to me. For the price of the controller ($1,099 RRP) plus the price of an iPad ($500), you could buy a laptop, Virtual DJ Pro, and any of a range of 4 deck controllers (mine is an AA VMS4.1), and have a world more flexibility and functionality. Sure, it's got a nice brand name on it and I'm sure it's a nice enough high quality product, but just kinda unnecessary IMHO. ;-)

The remoteBox app also sends MIDI information through the XDJ-R1.

So when using VirtualDJ, the remoteBox app is a 'technically' a remote to VirtualDJ.

All the things you see in the video with controlling the unit when using CDs/USB are the same things you can control when using VirtualDJ.

I think the general idea is that it's an all-in-one unit that doesn't need a laptop.

Some people would rather use kit that doesn't rely on a computer to function. I'm one of 'em!

Yeah buddy!! I like have the CD and USB option. May need to switch out my DDJ-SX for this bad boy.

The only thing I'd lime to see different is the screen, why can't they make them so they tilt up like their cdjs? This goes for the Mixdeck line as well. Might finally sell the Mixdeck, not sure though.........still not a 100% sold and it didn't look like the crossfader was replaceable.......

Edit.....

Chris, other then missing 2 extra decks, what does this have over the Mixdeck Quad?? I honestly don't see a whole lot other then the name and the wireless part but I'd be doing video so I'd be using my laptop anyways . Could you Please help me out here?

I think I already know the answer, but can this work as a four deck controller if using the laptop/usb cable?

It's only missing is the direct access 'extra' deck stuff at the mixer. So, instead of a 4 channel mixer it is only 2 channels - on the hardware.

So, what isn't mentioned is that the VirtualDJ LE is actually a 4 deck version. And therefore the mapping is already done for 4 Deck control. Deck swapping can be done both at the unit and in the remoteBox app.

So, if I was to compare to a similar Numark design it would be the original MixDeck and not the Quad. When you break down the two units side-by-side there really aren't that many things different other than what you would expect based on the two brand names. Numark - straight and to the point of modern DJ functionalities (scratch, loop, cues) vs. the same plus the typical Pioneer enhancements of on-board EFXs (when operating the units as stand-alones)

The biggest advantage and most fun (IMO) is the remoteBox software. It is very tightly integrated to the unit itself (stand-alone) and sends MIDI thru the unit to the software. Oh, and remember that 4 Deck statement - you can use the remoteBox app to be controlling the opposite two decks than what the hardware is controlling. So, you really have a 'virtual' mixer section to give you direct 4 deck control.

The Pioneer ipad software skin looks strangely familiar. did Atomix design it for them?

Thanks Chris, think I'll stick with the Quad......

No. And when you look at it first hand - it is really a logical extension of the unit's design. So, it would be to difficult to come up with something that may resemble a skin for VirtualDJ.

Read up more stuff on it on the internuts. This is really what I am looking for. Full intergration for Controller/CDJ/USB and the option to add turntables. I like it!!! Will definitely be selling my DDJ-SX once this comes out.

The question is, will the internal soundcard on the unit work with VDJ when using Vinyl Timecodes???? Anyone????

Can this be used as a midi controller for vdj via laptop?

I want one....... I just made a post about this. I want one.................

Did you miss the thread title and the first post, that both mentioned the R1 shipping with VDJ?

I don't see anything that says it won't (the requirements are listed on the app store page).
