I had a bride ask if i was able to do a live video feed during intros and other formality's. other then putting a a/b video switch before the video splitter to the tv's is there an easier way. is there any way to play the live video feed with vdj? how have others done this. what is your preferred way of doing it or setting this up
Thanks for your input

Just an idea but how about a Go Pro Hero 3? Separate device that can be mounted anywhere, wide angle, HD....

You have the ability to use a USB camera with VDJ, in fact I can think of a few plugins that support the use as well. Pangolin, Firetext, SBDJ has a plugin. Check the plugin section and you'll find everything you need except the camera........

Droid cam (for wifi droid video to web cam plugin) or Pocket Controler for IOS.
There will be an app on your phone and then a receiving app on your PC. Connect your phone and PC to the same WIFI network and hit connect.
Now in VDJ, just start the camera plug in and set it's web cam input to the program you are running above. Works like a champ!

I have used a Sanyo XACTI camera on a tripod and plugged it in to my laptop via USB. In your video tab on VDJ you can choose the camera instead your clip bank. Oh and BTW, this only works on PC laptops. :(

Scott has fixed it on the Mac side so it does indeed work. ;-)

I've got an improved version of that too to release soon with some fixes and even more enhancements. Will upset the PC users as it's more capable than the PC one!

SBDJ thanks thanks for your input, wish i had a mac. but have to tell you .......love the slide show plugin! use it almost every weekend!
anyway for those of you that have talked about what you use on your gigs thanks, can anyone add if there are any pit falls I need to know about, CON's I need to be aware of. and what does everyone think about "the camera" to use. I have the cannon EOS T3i, has anyone used this cannon to do what i'm trying to do. i know this will record in hd and other settings too. so is the idea i just record on the canon, while i'm connected via a cable to usb to the pc and use SBDJ's plugin and that should be it?
or...and I'm going to look into using my ipad or Iphone to go wifi to the pc and into vdj. anyone every done this befor?
and thanks everyone. this is a good thread.

I've tried the iPhone camera and other wifi options. It was a fun gadget to play with but didn't look professional to me. What I use is a USB capture card. I set up a standard camera on a tripod, RCA to my capture card, and into VDJ.
Doing this with a few video effects plugins like FireText and you can put together some nice stuff.
I did use a switch for multiple cameras and one capture card. This worked well also.

Ok so its over, thank god. the wedding was great. to the bride and groom were raving about my performance and everything I provide it for them. but behind the scenes there was an issue. I purchased it HDMI a/b splitter.... A-used for virtual DJ, B- I used for showing the life video footage I shot through my canon and T3I. The problem was when going from live footage and switching back to virtual DJ I was getting an error code saying that the video card stopped working, and could not reignite the TVs. The only way to fix it was to shut down virtual DJ and restart virtual DJ and it happened every time I switched over to the live footage and then had to come back to virtual DJ. So I worked it out so every time I had to do this it was at a time where the guests were sitting down for one of their courses, so every time I had to go back to virtual DJ after shooting live footage I would put on my iPod while it was running I'd shut down the system and restart virtual DJ. It wasn't how I planned it to work but everything worked out fine, but it would have been better if I was able to switch back and forth without having to shut down the virtual DJ. Does anyone have an idea why this happened or the future how I could've corrected this so I wouldn't lose the video card on my laptop while switching to another input.

Yea, you disconnected the monitor when you change from A to B. So your video card can't send a signal. You may have been better off shutting the video feed in VDJ off first, then change. But shaky ground with an A B switch. KVM switches are used for this kind of purpose.
Glad it worked out but the $5 app works perfect... Yea it is lower res, but when going through a plugin you won't see HD anyway.

Another way to avoid that problem would be to connect your computer VGA output into the input of a Single Multi Output Splitter first, then connect a cable from one of the outputs in your splitter into side "A" of a separate A,B Switch Box, then connect your camera into side "B" of the A,B switch Box. Now connect your monitor cable into the main input side of your A,B Box.
What this does is keep your laptop VGA output active without losing the signal so it doesn't shut down in your laptop and it gives you a way to switch between your camera feed and your laptop feed into the monitor without a mix up...
You could also just go into your desk top and reactivate your second monitor, but that might be messy since VDJ video drivers might also have to be Re-Enabled which sometimes may give you a "Video Driver Error", so the above method will be a cleaner way with less hassle.
Good Luck

HEY everyone, it's been a couple weeks since I started this post I want to follow-up with everybody and give you my opinions and tell you what I found. For five bucks I went out and bought that apt for my iPad. It works okay but to avoid a lot of freezing of the video feed you have to remember to turn off your Bluetooth on your iPad. It gives an "ok" live video feed picture quality. Don't get me wrong it gets the job done. I've used it at all 3 of my weddings just this past weekend alone. I Only had one "feed freeze" episode. Worked pretty damn well, just wish it was a better quality of live feed.
Now Back to the a/b/ splitter, I went back and used my A.B. splitter again but this time before I switched channels I disengaged virtual DJs video card manually and then ran through my Canon camera live video feed which was a better quality live feed but I do not have the freedom that I did with the iPad. And then when I was done with the live feed, switch channels on the A.B. splitter and reengaged virtual DJs video card, it took about an extra minute to do but everything worked fine. So the choices are up to you.
Quite honestly my vote is for the iPad app and the wireless feed, only because it gives me the ability to walk anywhere I want to get the angle and live footage from every angle.... for example this is what happened on Sunday: while the bride was dancing with her husband I was able to shoot a close-up of the bride's mom and dad crying hugging and laughing together watching their daughter dance with her husband then the groom's parents came over and they all huged and were arm in arm watching swaying back and forth to their daughter and sons first danced together......... it was a priceless shot nobody got it but me! that's why I will use this live feed through my iPad, rather than be confined to maybe five or 10 ft corded to a video camera. I really was able to get some fantastic live footage even though the quality of the live feed wasn't high definition quality. but do you think any of my guests cared or complained about it. there is a delay between what you're viewing and what you're seeing "the live feed" there's about a 1 1/2 second delay, but who cares about that. My next thought is this I like to get some kind of a stand maybe on wheels like a microphone stand with some kind of an iPad connector to it so I get put the iPad may be it or 9 feet in the air angle it towards the dance floor and take the live shot whenever I want. Holding the iPad myself and walking around of course it was not a stable clean picture, and once I stopped and focused on the exact footage I want to shoot live then it became very stable and clear. But all in all it was a win-win scenario.

Greetings,
I just got a bit of a jolt. I bought a new laptop a HP DV7tqe 7000 a few weeks ago. Spared no expense. It's beautiful and running Windows 7 PRO 64 bit.
Today I tried to hook up my Sony TRV840 video camera. It has nice zoom and night shot.
My old laptop HP DV9000 running VISTA had trouble when plugging in this camcorder. When I'd activate camera it would blue screen. But not all the time.
I assumed getting a much better laptop would fix this problem. Now the problem is much worse. I don't think a USB camera will work.
It appears Windows 7 and 8 does not support USB streaming. I've been tryiing to fake it out by using "compatibility mode", but so far no luck. I can't get the driver to be seen properly in Device Manager. I'm not giving up yet.
I wouldn't know how else to stream live video into this laptop. I have 2 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports and NO Firewire port.
Has anyone got USB streaming to work with Virtual DJ on Windows 7?
Regards,
Jim
