Musicians Friend currently has a restock Traktor Kontrol S4 as its 'Stupid Deal of the Day' for $599 (vs normal price of $899) and shipping is free to the US.
I had looked into adding this controller to my repertoire in the past and decided to give it a pass, but figured I would post the info here in case there was someone waiting for a good price.
Here is the link for the Stupid Deal of the Day *Note that the deal is only good for today or until it sells out and after today it will send you to a different deal, usually something useless to DJ's.
I hope this makes someone's day ;)

that just means they are probably replacing it with a new model and you will have buyers remorse in a month or so... If you want rock solid I cant recommend the VCI-400 highly enough as it feels similar to a real mixer not a plastic toy like most other controllers of a similar size I have used.

I have had one and its good with the program it comes with but.... in version 8 of virtual dj there is some things about to change .. the idea of 1000$ older controlers is not the way to go anymore..

Synthet1c,
I have been drooling for a VCI-400 for a while now.
If I had the $899 to spend, it would be a no-brainer over the S4, especially now that the 2.0 firmware enables standalone use. But if my Denon MC6000 and my Numark NS7FX both dies today, and I only had $599, the S4 would be a good choice, even for a refurb. If they died tomorrow however, I'd be out of luck ;)
If I saw the VCI400 for $599 though, I would buy it now.

i would like to point out that there is a user created mapper for the Kontrol S4 available for download through the plugins>controllers section
Also the Kontrol S2 also has a mapper available for download from he plugins>controllers section, this features the high resolution sliders and jog wheels that the S4 mapper lacks due to technical reasons.
here is the store page

Tycoon,
Can you expand on what you mean about $1000 controllers with VDJ8? Are you saying that the software will open up new capabilities not addressed by controllers in the $1000 range, therefore requiring more expensive hardware? Or are you saying that the software will make it easier to get the same results with cheaper hardware?
Any insights you have would be greatly appreciated by me and other I'm sure.
Also, did you try your S4 with VDJ at all? I've already decided not to buy one, but insights here would be appreciated as well.

Good point. I had been assuming it had native support in VDJ.

It's a NI Traktor product so for commercial reasons it wouldn't have a native mapping in VDJ
