Topic: Noob question: changing video transition speed

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and VJing and after doing a search I could not find an answer to this question so I hope its OK that I post it:

I'm using the VDJ Home version right now just to try it out before buying the Pro version. I'm using it to mix music videos and one of the things I like is being able to hit the play button of one deck as the song in the other deck is finishing and seeing an audio and video transition occur automatically. But it seems like the transition speed is really slow and for the life of me I cannot see how to adjust this duration to make it quicker. I realize I can do a manual transition with the fader bar but I like the auto function.

Can someone tell me how the transition speed can be adjusted?

Hi, good question, so just to be clear, what do you press as well as "play" to get it to fade from one song to another? Is there an 'auto crossfade' option somewhere?

The action ..
video_transition can take time in ms to specify the duration
So you can map a keyboard/controller shortcut as ..
video_transition 500ms
or
video_transition 200ms
etc

For more infos regarding vdj script actions (verbs) look here.. http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript_verbs.html

In the configuration under Options you can set the "Auto-Cross Length", this may be what you are looking for. Hope that is helpful.

Thanks everyone... I tried adjusting the "Auto Cross Length" slider under Config/Options but that did not do anything.

To clarify, I am trying to adjust the default time for the "Video Crossfader" slider in the Video section. I have the "Auto" and "Link" lock icons next to the Video Crossfader highlighted in yellow, so when a song in the blue (left) deck finishes I hit "play" on the red (right) deck and VDJ starts the video and automatically moves the Video Crossfader, but at a very slow speed.

I could do this manually but its kind of a pain to start the next song and then quickly move my mouse over to do the video crossfade.

And regarding the "mapping" suggestion, I am not using an external controller with the free Home edition, so all I have to work with is my PC keyboard for now.

There is also a "CTRL" knob next to the video effect boxes and I thought this might control the speed but it does not. I wonder what this knob does?

Also, I wonder if the transition speed has anything to do with the power of the PC? Right now I'm using a laptop and the video playback is a little choppy so I wonder if this is the reason why the transition speed is slow.

Hi again... I just wanted to double check to make sure it is NOT possible to adjust the default transition length, without breaking into the code.

I'm thinking about buying VDJ but this is a deal breaker... if I can't do something basic like easily adjust the default transition speed I'll have to look for another product.

It is already mention above by TDBennett "Auto-Cross Length" the shorter time you set your crossfader the fastest it will have your transition from one song to the other. You can also adjust the "Crossfader" settings like "smooth, full or disable it".
