I'm not sure if there is a thread already on this but here it goes -
I was told the Numark N4 (and every other midi controller) would accurately react when in use. But after having it for 2 months, I must say, the crossfader is not EXACTLY the same as an analog mixer. On my other non midi mixer - DJM250 - the timing is always perfect. I always land on beat when going left and right. But on the N4, I have to "come in" a second ahead of time, in anticipation for it to sound perfect on beat. The same thing with the knobs. I "snap" the knobs on beats and drops, but I also have to "snap" them a second before. Is there a way to eliminate or modify this, or is this just one of those things that comes with using MIDI?

does it work better if you try it with serato intro ?
If so then this is just how it is for vdj
If not then it's just a lower resolution CTRL. Nothing can be done.

Yeah, I'd figure nothing could be done about it, - I'm just gonna kill myself so all of you learn your lesson (I'm not sure what lesson it is) Oh well. No biggie. It feels funny tough when I go back to the DJM250 - Now I'm "way too ahead" of time when sampling. But its nothing my fingers cant switch through out, no biggie. Thanks - (pulls trigger) (and somehow manages to post this response)

When using the software mixer in VirtualDJ, the responsiveness will depend on the latency of the sound card that you are using. For fast/instant response, low latency ASIO is essential.
The N4 doesn't appear to have real ASIO drivers available on Numark's website, only generic ASIO4ALL which is an ASIO emulator and will not provide true low latency audio (See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/ASIO4ALL.html )
If you have another sound card that is ASIO capable, try using this instead of the sound card in the N4, setting the buffer size as low as your computer can handle without sound break-up stuttering, etc.
Alternatively, if you have access to an Apple Mac, try using this instead. The N4 should use native CoreAudio on the Mac, which is low latency.
