Topic: How to hear both tracks at once in headphones /and/ XSPro help

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all, I would appreciate some help with this.

First question: I am using a laptop connected to a Fast Track Pro, controlling with an M-Audio Xsession Pro. Master channels for each deck are set to 1 & 2, headphones set to 3 & 4. The only problem is that this separates the headphone channels, and I cannot get both headphone buttons to light up. This means I can't use my headphones as a monitor for what the crowd is hearing when I'm blending one track into another.

Is there a way to do this with just the gear I have now?

Second question: my Xsession Pro seems to lag on Virtual DJ. When I slide a volume fader up or down, it's clear from the visual (and sound) that it's taking too long. I've played with latency, but nothing seems to make the controls tight. Meanwhile, the controller works VERY tightly with both Torq and Traktor. Why is this - and is there a way to fix it?

Thanks everyone!

How about plugging your headphones into the laptop and using the laptop sound card as your cue channel?

Okay, I tried to do that. I'm having the same problem now, just plugged into a different jack. I can still only hear one channel at a time in the headphones - deck A or deck B.

Am I missing what you're saying?

Thank you Support Staff! I'm pretty sure that's the answer I was looking for (will make sure when I get home).

Now for this lag . . . it's quite unfortunate, because I like VDJ. Does anyone have any thoughts on why my Xsession Pro would work tightly in other programs and lag in VDJ? I've tried different latency settings, and some help if I sacrifice a bit of sound quality, but there is still lag. No issues in Traktor and Torq.

If the sliders lag on screen as move them, then it is probably a MIDI issue with the unit.

Check that your computer is not optimised for maximum performance - See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html

Also, if you have access to a different controller (E.g: A friend has one you can borrow), try this and see if you get the same issue.

You can use a MIDI tool such as MIDItrace http://www.virtualdj.com/download/miditrace.exe or MIDI OX to check whether there is any delay in the MIDI messages that it is sending (Values should appear on screen immediately as you move the sliders.)
