Topic: Grooveshark - FILTERS for explicit lyrics? and other features...

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I just signed up for the PRO membership. I love it, but I'm also not liking it at the same time.

It recommends the best songs to keep people moving on the dancefloor, and it can stream them in real-time. It also allows saving (DRM protected) songs in VDJ cache for playing later. You just have to keep your subscription active to my knowledge.

BUT it appears to be LACKING in two VERY important features:

1. It recommends songs, but ONLY displays a Grooveshark listing. If you have it in your library already, it doesn't show your version. It only shows what's on Grooveshark for streaming.

2. It does not appear to have any filter to show CLEAN LYRICS results. I was shocked to hear a lot of explicit lyrics, when I know there are clean radio edits available.

If it cannot filter out songs with explicit lyrics, and doesn't even indicate they have explicit lyrics, then Grooveshark is absolutely 100% useless to me, as I can't afford to damage my reputation by playing an explicit version at a wedding!

Anyone have some clarity on these issues?

1. If you are in 'Netsearch' on the browser then it will only search netsearch. If you are not - ie you are in your local library it will search that, then fall back on netsearch if there are no results.

2. We don't administer the content, so have no control over how the content is marked/named.

To be honest relying on netsearch is a bad idea - I think its better suited as a request filler for content you don't have. You should always listen to a track before playing it, so you'd hear if it had explicit lyrics anyway.

I agree 100% about previewing. In fact, I have to listen to about 10 videos before I find a suitable version. It would be a good start to have a flag for clean versions, but it's not possible because Grooveshark doesn't host the content - it comes from Youtube and other sources. They just provide the streaming technology. And VirtualDJ Pro adds the cache and DRM (you only get the cache by using Virtual DJ - Pro membership/subsctiption.

Thank you for this post. I was just about to purchase the premium package for virtual dj, but after reading this I will hold off. The number one reason for me purchsing it would have been to find the clean or radio version of songs. So I appreciate you clearing that up for me. But for the record Virtual DJ is incredible.

I love the music service and use it mainly for requests... Just try typing the song title and the word "clean" after it and I've been able to find what I need...

Good tip Bulldog!

also using "lyrics" in your search will get some of the clean versions too.
