Hello people
Any advice would by greatly appreciated. Just got in the VMS2 and within 15 min of mixing I get a pop-up saying "exceeding power to USB" or something like that and all my USB port turn off. I had to uninstall and reinstall them for them to work again. I have been reading up about maybe using powered USB hubs or fliters, but if anyone has had this problem please give me some insight. Thanks
P.S. im using virtual dj 7 and windows 7

You didn't mention you're using the power adaptor. If you do the VMS shouldn't draw the power from your USB-port.

Are you talking about the one that comes with the VMS (6V power adapter), if so, it was plugged in when I tested everything out.

That's the one ;) Do you have anything else connected that is USB-powered? (External HDD...) I now can't imagine this problem is VMS-related.

Nope, thats it.

I don't understand what you mean by "USB power surges?" Can you explain in detail?

@Irulace: I'm stuck.... Spend some time searching on whatever your problem may cause, but because nothing is drawing any power from your USB-ports, I only can think of hardware malfunctions.
You can try to use another USB-cable (it might be short-circuited inside) and you can try what your VMS does on another PC. If it happens again, it might be a failure in the VMS.

So everything was plugged in as normal.. USB form VMS to laptop, power adapter to wall... connected to VMS. Ill mix for about 15- 20 mins and a pop up will come on the screen and says " USB has exceeded power limit on port" something of that nature. After that, all USB ports are disabled by laptop, Virtual Dj freezes, I have to shut everything down and reinstall the USB drivers for them to function properly. I am really surprised too, I have used my Mixtrack Pro for about a year with no problems. I might just have to return it, it kind of scares me that something like that would happen mid-set you know. Well if you all have any thoughts please send them my way, if not Ill just have to return it. Thanks

The VMS is straight out of the box, I dont know I might just have to return it and save for something better.

Maybe it is the power manegement of the USB hub, allowing the computer to turn off the device to save power? Go to the "Device Manager" and then "Universal Serial Bus controller". Right click on the hub (all of them) and select "Power Management". Undo the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

I was thinking about that but I wouldnt want to damage the drivers if a power surge is happening. I also read about using a ycable (USB) to spread the power but not too sure if that would help.

Its a windows warning message that pops up due to power demand of a USB device. At least thats what Microsoft says. Are you sure that the AC adapter does the job ? Could it be a faulty one ? Do the Leds of the VMS light up brightly ?
Re install drivers, and reboot.
Do you have any power saving plan in your settings ? Power Managment

What are the specs on your laptop and which version of "7" are you using? You should use software to manage background programs while using VDJ, I mentioned Game Booster 3. I use a Windows 7 Home Premium and another laptop with 7 Ultimate both with Game Booster 3 and a minimum of 4 gigs of RAM. I mix videos, do karaoke and music for up to 8 hours at some gigs without so much as a hiccup. It's not a VMS issue, I'm almost sure it's something else.

VMS was working perfectly for abt 15 mins. I have reinstalled drivers, and they were on the setting that will turn off drivers to save power but I wonder how that would fix the problem by unchecking that option.

I have Windows Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite, laptop is about a year old. I have 4 gigs of RAM and I recently installed the Game Booster 3 from your vid. (Thanks for that by the way) I plan on running at a gig I have Thurs. but I havent plugged up the VMS2 again since I have a gig Thurs and only one laptop I didnt want to screw anything up before then, Ill just use my Mixtrack Pro for that till I figure out whats up with this issue. Might be a settings issue but I would rather becareful and findout before I try anything.

It's a comfortable thing to have some backup(plan)...
Laptop should be OK for VDJ. Is it the same config that you previous used with the Mixtrack? If it's not, make sure your MixTrack doesn't give the same problems. If it is, then your new VMS is the first suspect. It's always possible that you've got the "monday-morning"-edition...

Yea, I made sure the mixtrack was working properly. I used it for about an hour this weekend and plan on using it some before thursday night. Thanks for all the insight, I got in touch with American Audio tech guy yesterday and told him about the problem; he said he would call me back but he hasnt yet so Ill see what he says.

The laptop I use the most is also a Toshiba Satellite with 4 gigs of Ram and Win 7 HP. It is entirely possible the unit is defective. That doesn't mean the whole VMS line is crap like some here would have you believe. Maybe getting it exchanged might help your issue otherwise try it out with the new setting and Game Booster 3 before your gig

Does the VMS2 have to plugged into the laptop for it to power on. Can I only plug an iPad with a Alesis docking station and plug into analog and play music thru speakers? Also, do the button light up only when plugged into the laptop?
