Topic: CD/DVD Drives on your laptop.............

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Are they really needed?? I was thinking of taking mine out and adding another hard drive. I don't burn cds with my laptop I dont watch dvds. At our shows I never really play anyone's cds, maybe once in a great while.

Is adding an extra hd worth it?? Thoughts, good or bad, what do yall think?

The link looks good, Are you ordering from them soon, if you are post your results

Thanks Huey

You dont need a Cd/Dvd if your laptop is just for Dj ing. I am going to ad another drive in my laptop for Just Music videos.

That's exactly what i'm doing plus my top videos, so I can travel light when I need too.. any ideas on a 1TB drives.?

That was my plan as well, lol! I ordered mine lastnight so I'll let you know how it goes.

Great minds think alike, lol!

Hi Huey, How did the installation go with the second hard drive in your laptop...did you get it done.?

I got your message but have been busy with life, its just sitting here with the harddrive waiting for me to put it in, lol! I should have some free time this weekend so ill try to get it done. From just looking over the instructions it seems to be a pretty straight forward process.

Ill be back (terminator voice)

...cool, I've also been busy with gig's lately trying to make time for some upgrades and a new setup for smaller venues..

I may have some issues with mine because the cd/dvd drive has an IDE port, not a SATA....., so would need a SATA configuration inside of the caddy for the HD and a IDE port connector outside for the computer terminal connection..

I checked the site you posted, but don't see anyway to send them an email on what I need in order to make this work, if possible..If you have info, could you pm me that please...

Another issue is the CD\DVD went bad on me and had to order a new one today, oh well sh*t happens when you least expect it...

Thanks,

Joey...

I have a 2tb external hard drive that I store all my music, vidz & karaoke on & it has about 500gb left free. For me I would leave my cd/dvd drive in my laptop so if needed I have the option of playing a disc. If I remove it I will not have that option & my external hard drive has plenty of storage space.

You can still use your cd drive, just put it in an external case.......I can't even tell you the last time I used CDs.

I use Cd's all the time that my singers dring in with their backing tracks, so I have a Numark Mix2 with an iPod station..some bring CD's Some Bring iPod or iPad, no problem, I have all bases coverd, but if you must a USB player is a better option....

how about the heating problem?

You must use a fan especialy for video playing, that also will effect performance after a couple of hours if you don't have one....
