Topic: VDJ and Computer shutting down. PLEASE HELP.

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Alright community, so I have VDJ 7 Pro and I have the Hercules remix console. All of this using an acer laptop. I'm having a little trouble tho. I have it all running for a little while, maybe 10 minutes, maybe 5, and it just shuts down on me. I don't know why or what exactly is wrong.

If someone could help me out that would be great. I think it may be an issue with drivers? or maybe my laptop just can't hang with the programs. I run Windows Vista; which I thought would be fine but I don't know now. Any suggestions or helpful info would be awesome, thanks.

Try to update the drivers by going on the hercules website, don't use the cd that came with it,it is prob out of date.I had the same problem also I decided to use a powered usb hub, only because if I had my pa pounding I was using to much power and my rmx would lose power, did those two things and all is good. You can get a powered hub for under 10 dollars.

please register ur pro license as well

My laptop is doing the same... The problem with mine is the laptop is over heating (Toshiba Satellite i7).

Try to conect the laptop to an external screen with an external hardisk and any other usb device and let it run in itunes for an hour to be sure the problem is not the laptop.

Good luck.

I read this older thread and felt I could contribute something so here goes: A laptop shuts down due to overheating USUALLY, because the fan has accumulated too much debris over time. This is a HUGE undertaking to take out all those laptop screws and parts so you can clean it properly. In the past, I have eliminated the $100+ investment for a tech and having to tear the laptops apart by just grabbing my 16 amp sweeper hose and sucking the junk out of the fan from the vents on the outside of the laptop. I have learned that if you do this in a circular motion, opposite of the direction the fan moves, you will cause the winded dirt to unwind (for the most part) and all the accumulation elsewhere will come out. If it doesn't it will be visible and you can gently pull it out with tweezers (without touching anything w/ current inside--ie. metal). It's a quick fix but the last laptop I did was nearly 4 years ago and it still hasn't overheated andI have 5 laptops to clean. As for VDJ shutting down? I believe--and let me research--it is caused many times by JAVA's request to automatically update. Java can be a great thing but It is widely HATED by people like me.
