Topic: ........Mixing with Alphanumeric Keys........

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I'm just now gettin into the whole mixing in key thing.....I\'m following the printout of the famous "Camelot wheel".......I chose the option on

the VDJ browser to display the "numeric key".......My problem (I think)...all of my tracks show up as (some number) A.....Everything shows up

in the key of A with a different number before it. Is this normal?.....Im thinking that it can\'t be...All of my tracks show this way, Metallica to

Biggie (some number 8,9,5,4) then letter A.........All my files are WAV taken off of their respective albums, so no Mp3 tags, but the VDJ

software should have analyzed the tracks when I scanned them for BPM right?........any advice ? or is this normal?......Thanks as always guys!

8A, 12A, 4A, 10A, 2A.....etc.........Every Song, no matter the genre.....

hey blaze,

the camalot system follows the circle of fifths in music theory, mixed in key just simplified it to numbers. The reason all of them say #A is because the computer has scanned them and thinks they are created in a minor key, it would say #B if it thought it was major but there is debate about whether computers are capable of guessing major keys. but imho dance tracks are very rarely created in major

for more info check out http://www.mixedinkey.com/HowTo.aspx

I've mentioned this to Atomix on several occasions in the past, and nothing's changed.

If you use a standalone key detection program such as Mixed In Key, then you WILL get both A and B results.

Of course this is normal, as music is not just written in minor keys.

The broader your music collection is (in genres) the more variation in keys you will have - not just minor, as VDJ tells you!

You can work around the limitation of having everything displayed as minor, but it's not 100% ideal.

If a song is actually B, then it will still mix with an A song of the same number - but it won't mix with the numbers either side (if they really are A). If they're really B too, then you'll be OK.

...Told you there was debate LMAO!

Thanks for the info as always Syn, Grovindj, etc....U guys ROCK!!... =D

@jboerlage - would be great to add Mixed in Key key values to numeric key value of VDJ?
Possible?

Nice! I read it. But when i download at boerlage.eu i get previous version. Could you update that?
