Topic: Numark Mixtrack Pro + Laptop + Virtual DJ output and headphone problems

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Having problems with getting sound from both my output speakers and my headphones.

I have a Numark Mixtrack Pro hooked up to a basic laptop. I have the latest version of Virtual DJ Pro.

All I need to know is what to do with the sound. I have a 'Bandridge' output cable which is hooked up from 'output 1' to my laptop. I have t.bone HD-880 headphones plugged into the Numark Mixtrack Pro. My laptop soundcard is Realtek HD Audio.

Could someone tell me how to work the inputs and outputs and the Soundcards to get clear sound into my headphones and to laptop speaker or otherwise?

The mixtrack pro has it's own Soundcard. The connection from the Laptop to the mixtrack should be the USB cable. The headphones should be connected to the mixtrack phone out on the front edge and the RCA set 1 from the back of the mixtrack should be going to your speakers.

This will send your main out to the speakers and cue channel to the headphones.

refer tot he Mixtrack manual for the proper VDJ configuration settings.

There is no reason to use the soundcard in your laptop.

PS: register your Pro version through your profile and you will get a nifty 3rd star on your avatar :)

Still having cue/headphone problems. would really be grateful for some advice thanks.

Make sure that you have plugged a pair of powered stereo speakers into the master outputs on the back of the MixTrack Pro and your headphones into the headphone socket of the MixTrack Pro.

Alternatively, connect a suitable cable (2x RCA to 3.5" headphone jack) from the master output of the MixTrack Pro to the line input of your computer. The sound will then come out through the computer's speakers (If not, go to your sound card's mixer/control panel and ensure that the line input is not muted and the volume is set to an appropriate level.)

NOTE: VirtualDJ LE is limited software and does not support outputting sound directly through your computer's own built-in sound card with headphone pre-listening. It is designed to work with the sound card in the MixTrack Pro only. For more flexible sound configuration options and much, much more, you will need to upgrade to the full VirtualDJ Pro at a discount: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html

@ JOhn: Thanks Man, any and all tutorials or Info on VDJ or the Mixtrack Pro are welcome please. Much appreciated if you do have any you want to share if send then via post/message. thanks again

@ VDJ Staffer: Thanks VDJ Staff!! I am a poor working(gig'n) college student and that $300 was killing me. I am going to buy vdj 7 when i get paid this week and if not, def next weeks pay check is going directly to VDJ.Is there a time limit on the offer? Other than price what are the Pro's or Cons for Electronic Delivery vs Hardcopy(postal delivery)? thanks again

checked out the useful links above, but they seem like over-complicated ways to
achieve something that can be explained much shorter. my main points are

-no reason why you can't use your laptop as your headphone monitor
-the mixtrack pro has *2* stereo outputs, no matter how you map it. it does NOT handle its headphone out as and
independently processed 3rd stereo channel. (like headphone cue monitor on a 'regular' mixer)

my config

Inputs: none

Outputs: "Headphones" >> "Master: First Card / Headphones: Second Card"

Sound card: "2 Cards + usb.key.pic" >> "Mixtrack Pro" (first selection)
"Your whatever laptop soundcard name" (second selection)

this abandons the numark's headphone output BUT NOT the usefulness of the cue_gain and cue_mix knobs on its mixer,
if you simply plug your headphones into your laptop. really, who's going to stop and nitpic the specs on your laptop
onboard soundcard, if it's only used now as a functioning monitor?

over complicated??? far doos, you do better??? how many guides have you written? how many people have you helped? you dont even have a liscence... grow up... just because you cant be bothered to read the detail of why and how things work then thats your problem...

@Blu, I won't say I told you so............. and just cause he doesn't have a license doesn't mean he's wrong and in this case he's spot one...

It is what it is

There is currently no expiry on the upgrade offer. However, it is only applicable to the electronic download version. There is no discount off the boxed hardcopy version.

There is no difference between the hardcopy and electronic download except for getting a physical boxed CD in the post.

That won't work - He wants to output the master through his laptop and still headphone pre-listen via the MixTrack Pro.

If he chooses that setup, his master output will still be through the MixTrack and he will still need external speakers.

If you set them the other way around, so the laptop is the master output and the MixTrack is the headphones, it will not work either because the headphone output is on channels 3&4, which cannot be selected when using Outputs: 2 cards. The headphone signal would end up coming out of the MixTrack Pro's master output!

The best solution is what is posted above. Configure the MixTrack Pro properly and then run a suitable cable from the MixTrack Pro's master output the laptop's line input. Then the master output will come out through the laptop's speakers.
