I am thinking I want to buy a mixer with a built in sound card..
I use VDJ and an NOT a "mixer" I use the mouse as a controller and so I do not use a separate controller of any kind... please don't run with that and stick to my question...
I heard that the DJM 5000 is a good way to go, but is anyone out there in VDJ land using a mixer with a built in sound card that they would recommend"?
Mainly I want to do this for ease,,, I have just been using the headphone jack on my Dell Vista 7 computer...

Sorry I have to "run with it", why do you want a four channel pro mixer that costs $1500 if your not going to be using it as a mixer? You could just get a soundcard and buy a few connectors to enable you to plug it into different systems...
Apart from that, rane ttm57sl is a 2 channel scratch mixer with serato soundcard built in, and I think the new vestax 05 mixer has a soundcard but thats a 2 channel scratch mixer as well, so for both of those options you would be paying extra for high quality faders that your not going to use anyway

The Rane MP25 has a 22 channel sound card. Look here.

Yeah, Pioneer DJM-5000 works fine with VDJ. My friend has one, so I can confirm this from personal experience. Makes a great setup when combined with the SEP-C1 controller.
However, there are two fairly big drawbacks:
1) Only 3 channels out via USB.
2) USB-channels are output only, meaning that you can't record your master output via USB.
If you are willing to throw slightly more cash to the table, you can get the excellent Denon DN-X1600 which myself and many others here have. It does not suffer from either of the two fore-mentioned drawbacks.

Eh? Where did he say that?!
He said he doesn't use a controller, so doesn't want one of the many combo mixer/controllers that are around now.
I'd suggest that a DJM5000 is overkill. There are far cheaper options.
An important question is "how many stereo channels of USB audio do you need?".
Some mixers only have USB as an auxilliary input, on a single stereo channel, so you wouldn't be able to assign each VDJ deck to a separate fader.

Denon DN-X1600 is what I am using and it satisfied all my mixing needs. It's a mixer (with effects), midi-controller, and a soundcard all in one. Less cables to use.

i am in the same boat however i have 2x cdj 400s and am looking to control vdj mixer ( sliders, crossfaders, eq ) using the hardware mixer any good ones between $300 and $400

No, no and once again NO! Will you people ever learn? If you have a mixer, use it as a freakin' MIXER. Go to the board and write 100 times: "A mixer is not a controller."
What's the point using your mixer as a remote controller to control VDJ internal mixer? Nothing! You're basicly just wasting your mixer not to mention the quality of software EQs and faders is ALWAYS worse.

Gotta agree with him on that....... if you have a mixer use it as a hardware mixer.............forget about the software eqs they don't exist, lol!

okay not to be rude but i thought i was pretty clear that i want to use the hardware mixer just like i would without the software but recording because the mixer i have is not usb it records me cueing the song through the master unless i use the software mixer does that make sense?

aural/beat thats exactly how i use mine.as i said i use it mainly for four channels/built in soundcard microphone outputs effects ect.
i use my denon hd 2500 for effects mapped functions ect.
what i am saying is that the pioneer djm 500 is a serious mixer for whatever you want and soundcard is excellent.
i have nothing mapped but if you wish you could map all buttons knobs ect

My bad I did not specify about recording but when I am trying to record with vdj using my hardware mixer the recorder does not record the eqs, effects, or any changes in the music also when cueing up the next song and getting it beat matched ( even with the slider down on zero it plays through the the master anyway and screws the mix up. Now when I use the software mixer it records just fine. Its just a big pain in the butt and I don't want to use the vdj mixer I want to use the hardware mixer does that make sense sorry for being confusing

Sounds like to me your recording everything before it goes out to your mixer.. what are your settings? What do have as your record loopback?
Post a screen shot of your settings and will go from there

It was going good until my thread started to get stolen! LOL ;)
I am not a tecky guy, and I don't record my mixes, I'm a wedding and corp DJ, straight up top 40 stuff nothing even close to club style/type Beat mixing DJing...
Having been asked about it,, I would like to have both decks on stereo from VDJ... I know it is hard to get people to agree on one type or piece of gear because so many people want and do so many different things.
Yes I know it would be cheaper to get a sound card only but cheapest is not always the best way.... Good quality and ease of use, flexibility is important.... I need a four channel mixer because I also do things like Karaoke and Game Show Mania! where I need to plug in extra gear, and to be honest, have 2 back up channels is important to me... if you have a 2 channel mixer and one of the channels dies at a gig, what do you do? Don't answer that,,, stick top my OP! LOL

You need to setup "record loopback' in advaned config, be aware you need to also set up all the ins and outs for this to work not just the record loopback
