Topic: Virtual DJ Premium Membership?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Starting from VirtualDJ v6.1, Atomix Productions has partnered with GrooveShark in order to bring you a reliable and high-quality catalog of more than 8 million songs, while still ensuring that the artists get compensated for their work.
Unlike consumer-oriented music stores like iTunes or Beatport, where you pay for each song you want, but own them forever, in VirtualDJ we chose a model more suited for working DJs.
You pay only $9.99 per month, and for this price, you can play ANY song you want, from the millions available, without limits, as long as your subscription is active.

Okay, I am a little confused. If I get the 9.99 membership, will I be able to download the songs from Grooveshark? I don't see the point if I can't, because... I just went to Grooveshark.com and listened to a bunch of songs... Please give me full details,

Thanks

From my understanding of the system...with membership you can "cache" the files to your harddrive that will play the songs from. As long as you have the membership the songs will play. After a period of time I think the songs have to be revalidated which means your computer you use vdj on must have an internet connection so it can communicate to the service. If you cancel your membership then you will no longer be able to stream the songs from the service nor be able to revalidate your cached (songs saved to your harddrive from the service).

Hm... Okay, Let's say I stream (download) whatever, and I put those files in my separate thumbdrive. If my membership expires, would my thumbdrive play those music files on my Table Top Numark NDX400 Cd Player.

Please look up "Numark NDX400" if you dont know what it is (looks like)

thanks

No, VirtualDJ Premium Membership (NetSearch) and Grooveshark's own service (www.grooveshark.com) are two completely separate services.

Grooveshark's own service is aimed at home consumers (Non-DJ's) and cannot be used with NetSearch in VirtualDJ.

Likewise, Premium Membership is aimed at DJ's only and cannot be used with Grooveshark's own service. It can only be used in VirtualDJ via NetSearch.

A Premium Membership will not give you access to Grooveshark's own service and vice-versa.

If you wish to use Grooveshark's own separate service, which is not for DJ use, you will need to sign up separately via their website.

If you wish to use NetSearch in VirtualDJ then you will need to purchase a Premium Membership: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/membership.html

Music cached from NetSearch can only be played in VirtualDJ. It cannot be played on any other device (It is for DJ use in VirtualDJ only.)

If you allow your membership to lapse, then any music you have cached will expire shortly afterwards and can no-longer be played.

NetSearch is a 'rental' service - You do not own any music that you have cached.

Oh I see... So I can only use those tracks if I have Virtual DJ. So first, I am going to either need some timecode CD's or a controller. That is actually a good deal.

Instead of paying monthly, can you pay a year membership?

I don't always have internet access on my jobs, so if I cache the songs to the hard drive they will still play as long as I keep my membership up to date - Correct? Also are they clearly marked as edit or clean versions?

i have the same question as above..does it cache it offline for when you dont have wifi handy?
thanks in advance

they're not marked as clean

you always have internet access .......????????

just use your wireless connection (usb modem or phone)

You do not have to have Internet access to play cached files, as long as your subscriptions is up to date. You do have to re-authorize them, and I think that last for 30 days. I am not sure about that, but it would be wise to re-authorize just before you leave for the gig. The tags are not perfect, and you should listen to the tracks first if you can.

i find if you put in the exact spelling in the search box you get good results

These are really good CD quality tunes, however there is a line in which groove shark ends and various search engines kick in offering the same content, Groove Shark is fantastic but they don't have everything, but be careful, I've gottin caught out a couple of times with the quality. Listen before playing highly recommended.

still one of the many reasons why Virtual DJ is the best DJ software in the world. ;-)
