Topic: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M 2GB graphics with Optimus - Page: 2

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

It looks like it don't support the 540M. Only up to the 400. Or am I reading it wrong?

I tried to run it but it says it's not compatible with 540m. Instead I found some nvidia driver updates for my asus model. Funny thing is that the driver version was lower than what I have by default, I still installed them and now it seems to work little bit better - soundcard clicks and pops are gone.

from video output settings if I untickle "use hardware acceletation", intel graphics card is listed and when i tickle "use hardware acceleration", gt 540 is listed. Unfortunately when I select gt 540 and activate output, it still says "error in vdeo driver". At least VDJ recognized the card this time. But without hardware aceleration and intel graphics I cannot use video effects and trasitions... :(

I hope someone for the staff could respond to this. Optimus technology is coming fast to all new midrange laptops and this will be a HUGE problem...
I think that the only solutions are either new VDJ update to fix this or nvidia makes a new driver update...

I'm happy to tell you I solved the problem, or actually found a solution (hack) from google:

THIS SOLUTION IS ONLY FOR ASUS N53SV NOTEBOOK WITH NVIDIA GT540M

1. Download Nvidia driver from MSI (64-bit, ge620_gt540m_8.17.12.6704_w764) from here: http://eu.msi.com/service/download/nbdriver-16168.html
2. Run the downloaded "Win7x64_HDA(267.04).exe" and unpack the installer to a temp folder (i.e. C:\temp) but don't run the installer yet! You have to replace a file.
3. Download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?1bvq14d4de2vfmh . It's an edited file NVMI.inf file to run it with ASUS N53SV.
4. With this new file replace the one here "C:\temp\Win7x64_HDA(267.04)\Display.Driver\NVMI.i nf" (if you have unpacked the installer to C:\temp)
5. Now run the driver installer with "C:\temp\Win7x64_HDA(267.04)\setup.exe" and it will recognize your NVidia card in your notebook!
6. Run virtual dj_pro short cut with nvidia graphic card

shame it won't work for the dell.

dell may have it's own version of inf file

Ok just got a Dell XPS Laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GT 540m.
Right click on desktop and opne NVIDIA Control Panel from menu.
In left hand window slect "Manage 3D Settings"
Click the "Program Settings" tab.
Step #1 is select a program to customize: click the "ADD" button.
In the new window on the left side click "Computer" next double click "OS C:" (or the drive VDJ is on) then double click "Program Files (x86)"
Find the file "Virtual DJ" double click it and slect "Virtualdj_pro" and click "OPEN"
Now Step #2 select the perferred graphics processor for this program: slect "High-performance NVIDIA processor" from the dropdown window.
Click "Apply" or "Save" buttion at the bottom of the settings page.

This worked for me, no more video issues.

ilkalco,
Can you tell me the specs on your XPS. I'm very interested in upgrading from my E1505 (which I have had very few issues with)
Also are you able to get the OS disks for the reformat as mentioned above. I currently run my dell with a separate (removable) hard drive with the bare minimum OS while running virtual DJ software. This way there is less chance of software conflicts. I am hoping that having 2 partitions and 2 separate windows profiles will keep me safe from bugs and conflicts since the hard drive is not removable on the XPS.
One more question, did you get a decent deal with your system build or was it already bundled ?

Some other options would be Toshiba Qosmio X505 with second generation Core i5, or Hp Pro Book 6550 or Lenovo 510...

Even if 540 works good and also 530 may work, the only true equal of 9600GT could be GT 550Ti. But I already see working Laptop with Intel HD graphics card.

Hope This XPS issue is also an isolated one, because also XPS has great hardware and also alienware is.

Good Luck!
