i have been using virtual dj pro with the hercules mp3 e2 control for the past 3 months to learn the basic skills of djin!
now i feel as if its time to upgrade as i am looking to dj in clubs at some point!
does anyone have any advice on what equipment i should be looking to get?
i was also talking to a dj and he said that virtual dj isnt a good programme to use if i want to be a virtual dj and his advice was... purchase 2x cdjs and a good mixer and purchase new software such as traktor scratch or serato scratch!
would be grateful for some advice! thanks

Well I agree with on the cdj part but what were his reasons for VDJ not being any good?? I personally wouldn't use Traktor and I have Serato but I use both just depends on what I'm doing. They all have there pros & cons, in the end its up to you what your comfortable with.
Good Luck

Stick with VDJ and upgrade to the pro version. I have Traktor and Serato also, but VDJ is more customizable and user friendly. Everything else you need is a matter of preference. I'm sure your Herc controller does the job just fine right now, I'm not familiar enough with the product to advise but I'm sure one of the Herc guys will chime in here.
The one thing you will need to get into the club scene is some skills. Don't listen to the brand name fan boys who say you need this and that, or this brand is better than that, just find a set-up that feels good to you, has stability, and showcases your talent. Your audience doesn't care about your gear or choice of software, they only care about what comes through the speakers.
Best of Luck,
