Topic: Waveforms taking forever to load?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi there, just got the new, dj 7 software and when i load a track into deck A or B it's taking about at least 4mins to load fully, as opposed to the normal 30 secs or so, the same was happening to vdj 6, this is driving me crazy guys any help?

I have a Dell XPS 9100 with an i7 930, Win 7 64bit, 9GB of Memory, Mirrored 320GB 7200RPM HDD, and 12TB of NAS over 1Gb ethernet (with jumbo frames enabled through out the data path).

I too was having 150MB files taking over 4 minutes to fully load in a deck and complete the display of the waveform. My workstation came loaded with McAfee Security Center. To test if the Anti-Virus was possibly interfering I disabled Real-Time Scanning. Instant success! The video files now load in less than 2 seconds.

I continued to test with loading times, and all though turninging of McAffe made a difference, I didn't realize I was loading videos that didn't have BPM values. I'm in the process of re-scanning all my video's for BPM values, and it can take a long time for each video depending if it's a vob, mpg, mp4 along with the size of the file.

The i7 930 processor is 4 core / dual thread per core which shows up at 8 processors under Windows 7. I also have an ATI Radeon HD 5700 with 1GB of Video Memory. The scanning for BPM isn't taxing my I/O or CPU utilization on any specific processor. However it still is taking a over a minute for a 150MB mpeg4 H.264 video.

I do have Fast Resampling / 48Hz... selected in the performance configuration.

Any suggestions of how to speed up scanning of BPM files?

Sorry to be a message ranter, but I noticed my 2 second load times were on songs that were in the other decks. It still takes 4-6 minutes to load a waveform even after they've been scanned for BPM; and if they were in the decks only two songs past.

Bottom line, Waveforms are indeed taking 4-6 minutes to load.

This may also be caused by the 'SpeedLoad' setting.

This is designed to prevent the loading of songs/videos on lower specification computers from causing problems (Stuttering, etc.) with the current playing song due to too much CPU usage.

However, on a small number of faster computers it can cause the problem that you describe.

Please download the Registry Tool http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/2170/Registry_Tool.html and try changing the SpeedLoad setting (Make sure that VirtualDJ is closed when you do this.)

I downloaded the Registry Tool and looked at the value for SpeedLoad. It was not selected. I decided to try enabling it, and it still takes +2 minutes to load a 2 minute song.

However I did see one new side effect of having SpeedLoad enabled. While Deck A was loading I placed a song on Deck B. At this point CUE locked up, and the timer at the top stopped updating. CUE appeared to begin to respond after Deck A finished loading it's original file.

For comparison testing, I loaded CUE on my MBP and accessed the same video files, and they loaded in less than 10 seconds.
