The question is: Is this an analogue mixer, midi controller & soundcard?

It is a complete MIDI package - the mixer is MIDI capable. Yes, it has a soundcard built in. And yes, to the controller as well.

However, the display does not work in MIDI mode. It just says ( MIDI Mode ) - which is such a waste :(

That would have been cool if the display would have worked in MIDI mode. The first thing that caught my eye was the display but I guess it's useless to me if it does not work in MIDI mode.

Doesn't look that great for £500 though ........

Well from the ads I have read, it seems the primary 'marketing' focus is the direct use from USB flash drives and secondary inputs. The MIDI side seems to be just a 'great' addition.

But I am working with another vendor that is re-branding the controller. I am trying to get them to push the manufacture for display support in MIDI. It is a nice unit though. Sound card is strong. Controls are nice. A lot of nice potential in this unit.

I like the displays, USB backup and proper power input that Denon said couldn't be done lol

Has typical after market styling and I imagine it has a week feel (looks Plasticy) but all in all a very interesting and quit possibly the best controller out at the mo for me.

Funny how know-one else is talking about it.

Suposed to be rackmount but I don't see provision for this!

Well isn't that a surprise. They have IEC input and have LED display with usb drive media support.

This sounds like a bargain. It not rocket science hardware developers!

Actually it is a solid unit. Not plasticy like the TotalControl or MixTracks. It has a solid metal frame and bottom with a thick plastic shell. There are screw holes on the bottom left and right that look like they are for attaching wings for rack mounting.

I am currently writing a definition file and a mapper for it...

Re-branded controller... any hints on the vendor? American Audio?

Anyone managed to put together a mapping file for this yet?

Had a play with one of these in a local shop just running off a usb stick and it's a nice little player.

Price is a bit steep, especially if you dont already own some software - but I have the pro version of VDJ so no worries there.

Thinking of getting one of these to use as a midi controller and have a couple of usb sticks as back up in case the lappy crashes.

interesting that this is also marketed as the Voxoa S60...there's a post in the Hardware thread about someone having issues trying to map it into Home edition!

Looks a nice unit...and like others the screens are appealing, but if they offer no information from MIDI, a bit redundant.

I work in a DJ store by day, and have been having a bit of a play with this thing. I agree, it's not cheap, but seems pretty solidly built. I was halfway through mapping it before cstoll mentioned he'd already done it. Had no trouble getting the buttons, faders and jogwheels to work, although couldn't get any sysex info out of it, no joy using miditrace at least.

The guy in the Hardware forum with a Voxoa S60 mapping problem posted this SYSEXID...as it's a rebrand, not sure if it'll work or not.

Just bought one of these today and it is a great little player, I like the feel and layout.

Does anyone know where I can download the mapping file for this?

Got sound running through it from VDJ straight away so just need to map the controls and I'm away :)

No sign of any mapping files yet :(

The sound quality of this unit is very good, much better than I had expected.

Been mapping some basic functions to vdj but really need the proper mapping file to get all the leds and functions working properly.

I have e-mailed Citronic to see if they are going to release any proper mapping files - will see what they say!

So after a bad experience with the VMS4 and a very understanding retailer (thanks Jon @ Totalsounds), I also picked one of these up tonight and have had my first hour on the unit just in stand alone mode...and WOW!

I've always wanted a unit with its own power, and the ability to switch to another source if the lappy goes tilt. After sending the VMS4 back, I was a little lost. But looking at the spec of this unit, I thought why not a 30GB USB drive as my alternate source. And it works a treat.

Looking forward to getting VDJ up and running tomorrow - looks like the mapping is still in the making, and Im a novice at mapping - so if there is any common source to start from I'd be keen to put some hours in tomorrow...

BTW - I found these drivers for the VOXOA S60 from another thread:

next step mapping....

I agree this unit has all th features that a working laptop DJ needs and gives the perfect back-up option should your lappy crash.

I also like the fact it has inputs for other sources, so you could add a pair of digital table top players or CDJ's in the future.

I have written a more in depth review than the one I posted in another thread.....

Main reason I bought this is so I can use it as a midi controller and have a couple of usb sticks plugged in ready to go as back up just in case the laptop crashes and needs re-booting. There doesnt seem to be anything else on the market that offers these features in one box, especially not at this price.

Sound quality is very very good for the money and the overall feel is nice, not too cheap or plasticy.

Playing from usb sticks is straight forward and you can flick through folders and files quickly using the dials on the player. You can also create a database on the PC of you thumb drives and then display tracks in order of title, album or genre. There is no keyboard search facility though.

The onboard effects are cool as are the hot cues and looping functions. I had great fun the other night playing and mixing some house tracks together using the effects. Thex and y parameters of each effect can be altered using the jogwheel to create some cool sounds. Hot cues and loops can be saved back to the usb drive and recalled later too.

The jogwheel is a decent size and is responsive, it can be set to CD DJ mode for pitch bending, Vinyl mode for scratching or a.cue mode for scracthing tricks and effects.

All the normal buttons are there too, like pitch bend, time elapsed / remaining, single / continuous etc.

The pitch sliders are nice and long and although the pitch definition is only 0.0 (1 decimal place) when in the lowest 6% setting I found beatmixing between tracks easy and tracks stayed in sync pretty well too. You can choose between 6, 10 or 16% pitch range plus there is the usual key lock feature.

The displays are nice and bright but its worth noting that they dont show any information when in midi mode, you will need to look at the laptop screen for that.

Mixer section is nice with decent EQ and push button kills, there is also a booth output with seperate volume control. The crossfader is adjustable and can also be switched off if you prefer to mix using the channel faders. The level meter is good and can be switched to show deck levels or master level.

Proper balanced XLR outputs are provided and there are 2 line or phono inputs for adding cd players, decks, mp3 players etc.

Headphone output is clear and loud, you can listen to each channel or fade between the two for mixing. It would have been nice to have the option to cue the master output or a split cue option - but sadly both these options are missing.

There are two mic inputs, both with seperate volume levels and with overall tone control. It would have been nice to have seperare EQ but due to the size of the unit this wouldnt really be possible to fit any extra controls in. It is good to have the two seperate mic inputs and level controls as usually unts of this type only have 1 mic input. There is also lever to select mics on / off / talkover.

There is no software bundled with this player though so if you want to use it as a midi controller you will need a copy of vdj, traktor or similar.

I got sound running through this from VDJ and traktor quickly with no problems but there are no full mapping files available yet. I have started mapping some of the basic controls out but this is a little time consuming - hopefully some proper mapping files will be forthcoming. Obviously when using this as a midi controller you will be able to map any software function to any key and set up the controller to suit your needs.

Overall the citronic mpx10 is a good player, perhaps a little overpriced given that it doesnt come with any software. But if you already have software and can hold on until the mapping is sorted then this is a decent bit of kit.

I got mine from Mike at Phase One, who has them on offer at the moment - worth a look if you fancy one! I'm planning on doing a demo video on this once the mapping is sorted out so watch this space!

Well what can I say, I know a winner when I se one lol

Just wondering if the unit raises toward the rear so that it's on a slant? looks like it does.

Anyone had a case made yet?

Someone has to get the screens to work with VDJ

Yes the unit does slope.

It comes with rack mount ears so it will fit in any 19" rack type case. Although I think I would prefer a bag option, just looking for a decent large laptop bag that it will fit in.

I have mapped some of the basic functions in VDJ but need someone with more tech knowledge to write the proper definition and mapping files.
