First of all, thank You for a magical software like Vitual DJ. One of the most stabile and best djing solutions there is :)
Before reading the rest of the text, bare in mind that this text is not intended to insult or raise anger. If anyone finds himself/herself offended by the following text, i sincerly apologize upfront.
Ok now, i shall get to the point right away. A simple question has been buggin' me for some time.
How is that, that the users who BUY some consoles (Hercules DJControlMp3e2 or RMX or MK2 or whatever console there is),
get the version 3 of Virtual DJ DJC, but everyone else can download for FREE the home version, which is by the way the newest one (version 7 i think)?
Wouldn't it be fair if there was an upgraded version of Virtual DJ DJC edition...? I'm not asking for any aditional features like broadcasting, or skin changers, or more than 2 decks... Im just asking you if there is a way you could upgrade VDJ DJC edition from version 3 to some newer version?
I assume that the answer i am going to get will be something like: "With DJC edition, you get a discount for future releases, and we gave you our DJC version for free..." Ok that is great! Thumbs up for giving me the free software (which with most certainty is not free and i assume that you probably get a percentage in sales from every unit sold that comes with your software => So i guess it isn't free after all...or am i wrong?). If you really don't earn anything from Virtual DJ DJC edition, why wouldn't you give out the free downloadable version, which you offer for download, with the consoles for free?
So, the point of the text above => I (as a buyer) pay for Virtual DJ 3 DJC edition, but everybody else can get the newest version (currently version 7) absolutely free...
It seems to me that something is wrong there. Just think about it please...
Thank you for your time and understanding.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes!

I paid to upgrade the Hercules RMX packaged version of Virtual DJ to the pro video version, from then on I get the free updates ok.
Maybe you should do the same.

All of our LE versions except for Basic are technically free.
Software that was written for devices such as the MK2 was done so at the time the devices were manufactured.
The software that is produced for more current devices is naturally newer.
The RMX was based on version 5, others are based on 6 and now 7 but all have limitations.
Actually, the MK2 allows skin changes where the RMX 5 version does not.
The Home Edition 5 version would broad cast, the HE 7 will not and requires The Broadcaster version to do that.
Updates have been issued to users who's original software needed something fixed, and again that was always free.
As for the Home 7 version, the problem was the excessive amount of crack versions people were using because either the trial did not work or timed out before they were satisfied enough to purchase.
So the objective was to give a version that was limited enough for testing without a time restriction but would not support features that Pro users were paying for. It has become the flagship trial version now and also gets the software into home user's hands more reasonably and they will find their way to pro over time in most cases, we are very patient.
But its important to stress that all of these LE versions whether its 3.4 or 4.3 or 5 or 6 or 7, is that they are all free.
When you buy one of these devices you are paying for the device, our software and in some cases other software as well is included free.
Now on the backside, we offer a very generous discount to draw people to the legal Pro version also, and 50% is in some cases considerable.
So I hope that explains things a little better so its understood now, it can be a little confusing at first.

First of all, thank You for the detailed reply.
I completely understand what Atomix wants to achieve. I didn't want to sound rude, and if i did, i apologize.
As the matter of fact, I am thankful for all the support that You give to the LE users. Thumbs up to the support team! :)
But...
One more doesn't seem right...
You said that: "The software that is produced for more current devices is naturally newer."
Right after that follows: "The RMX was based on version 5, others..."
If i understand clearly, the newer the device, the newer version of software it gets.
May i know, why isn't there a version 5 or 6, of the LE software, for Hercules DJ Control mp3E2 then?
I own Hercules DJ Control mp3E2. How is it possible that i got the older LE software,
than people who bought RMX one year before me?
RMX was avalible since March 2008 /and goes with version 5 of LE software
DJ control Mp3E2 was avalible since October 2009 /and goes with version 3 of LE software
Thank You for Your time. I look forward to hearing from You soon! :)
Best wishes!

I see your point, its the exception in logic I guess.
These devices are furnished with software based on the desires and agreements between the companies who manufacture them.
In this case, the e2 nearly replicates the DJC 1 model without a sound card and the Mk4 replicates the MK2, essentially a face lift.
The E2 retails online for $75, MK4 $170 and the RMX for $299, so it then becomes the choice of the consumer.
Based on this, the software selection was a measure to keep the cost as low as possible for the customer.
Writing a new version for these controllers would certainly have been more costly.
As with anything these days, you get what you are willing to pay for based on features whether its physical or future discounts etc...
Hope that helps with real numbers

Ok, i understand You :)
The more money, the merrier. It has always been like that. :)
I see that we've reached the pinnacle of conversation about LE Software,
therefore i won't ask you anything more about it.
However, i wish to ask you one more thing.
I have an intention of buying the Virtual DJ Broadcaster.
If i was to buy the Broadcasting version of Virtual DJ,
would it be possible for me to use my Hercules DJ Control mp3e2 with it?
(I see that there is no midi support in any version except pro full,
so i guess my midi controller would become completely useless if i buy the Broadcasting version,
becasue of no midi support.)
Thanks for the info upfront!
I'm looking forward to hearing from You soon!
Best wishes!

Hi
Another very valid question that we'd rather have you ask about before purchasing anything new.
We have many LE users make this mistake because they don't ask or study the comparison and feature pages of the website.
Although any new purchase of our software over what you already have would seem like an upgrade it is not.
Device support is exclusive to our Pro version only.
Basic, Broadcaster and home will not support control devices.
Home Free will allow testing periods of 10 minute sessions and is our trial as I stated earlier.
For the record, Broadcaster does not support Mic inputs.
Hope to see you as a Pro licensed user someday.
