Topic: Experience with using your mobile phone internet connection on your laptop? - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with using their mobile phone internet connection shared with your laptop?

I've been looking at getting a separate mobile internet receiver for my laptop to use during my gigs but thought there must be people out there using their mobile phones connection for this instead.

I'm looking at getting an Iphone in a couple weeks for this sole purpose to go with the iremote thing as well. Anyone know how to do this?

I use my Droid X with netsearch all the time. I wouldnt trust it with video but audio is just fine. I use a program called PDANet. I can hook it using USB or Bluetooth. I'm sure others will chime in.

I'm always connected with my Storm, but I do not use a laptop to gig with. Works great, but you must have a pair of large ones to use during a gig. My are Ginormous. I use Netsearch and Rhapsody.

I've tethered to a couple of different Android phones without issue. The tethering on 2.2 is very well done. I don't own an iPhone so can't really comment in detail - I believe you can only tether an iPhone if you jailbreak it though?

Yeah I heard the same about jailbreaking the iphone.

Not sure what the buzz is about Android... its only just catching on here. Not enough apps atm.

Not enough APPS?? Lmao, your kidding right?? Your mistaken my friend there are 1000's of apps for Droid phones.

I've had tremendous success with my Sprint HTC EVO, using it as a wifi hotspot. I like the Iphone, but it doesn't do what the EVO can do. I download muisc and videos while I'm on the the gig with NO problems. In one of my other post I described how I had to do a complete gig using only my EVO and Netsearch because I dropped my hard drive. It worked fast and perfectly all night long. That's the reason I bought it.

Werx 4 me - Verizon.

I use my Black Berry 9700 from time to time without any issues, I'm with T-Mobile and have an unlimited data plan. To my knowledge AT&T makes you choose a plan, none of which are unlimited so that would be an absolute deal breaker as far as get'n the Iphone... Just some'n to think about...

ok maybe I'm misinformed... lol thats why I'm here.

Ok another qn... Is there any other phones which are compatible with the ipod docking station? Thats a real deal breaker...

I have the HTC Desire which is also Android. I found an app built in to the phone called "Hotspot". This turns your phone in to a WiFi hotspot. No tethering required, just simply connect your laptop as you would to any WiFi Network.

Also has the advantage of allowing you to connect multiple devices ;-)

The only downside for me is that my residency venue (on the pier) has next to no service :-( but as of this Friday I'll have an Ethernet drop cable in the booth...

Cheers,

Roy

there is also a usb adapter that u insert your sim card to use the internet on your laptop.

Good taste gadgetman. I use a desire hd myself :)

If I could wind the clock back 4 months, I wouldn't have bothered getting an iPhone...compared with the Android SP's coming out, it is old hat- even the iPhone 4.

There are so many grips with my 3GS that I won't bore you with them - and for clarity I'm using my Fiance's Galaxy S as a comparison (V2.1).

At the moment the only thing holding me back from selling the damn thing is the impending VDJ iPhone app...if I get on with the iPhone app, I'll keep the iPhone, otherwise it'll go on Ebay and I'll go back to using my old Samsung Tocco and look at getting an Android Pad (maybe the Galaxy S Pad).

Just my thoughts...

Simon

I use the htc HD2 works just fine!!

I just posted this tethered!

Get an Ipad for the VDJ app, the Iphone might be a little small for use as a controller.

It works great an all. But if you get a phone call it screws it all up!

I use my phone as a hot spot as well

I use my Palm Pre w/ hot spot all the time .... with the phone turned off
