I use VDJ for Karaoke and of course I queue up karaoke song files in that side list to the right much like a dj would. Why can't you have an option to assign a singer to that song. Right now the headings for that list are Song title and Artist. It would be nice if in config or wherever you could have a karaoke option to switch that to song title and singer whereby the DJ/KJ would right click on the song and type in the singer's name. So when right clicking on the song in the karaoke configuration, instead of "repeat song" "mix now" "remove", you would just see "add singer's name" where a little text box would pop up and you would type in the singers name. When done you would see the song title and the singer's name in the sidelist. Right now I use excel for the singers queue but it would be nice to have it all in one app.

That is why there is a Karaoke plug-in.

I don't see it under plug-ins. Where do I find it?

Are you running on a Mac??
It currently isn't available on a Mac. If you are running Windows then it should be under VideoEffects.

I'm running on a PC. I went into video effects and clicked on "karaoke". An error message came up saying "the program can't start because d3dx_33.dll is missing. try re-installing the program to fix this problem"

So, you need to download and install DirectX 9.0c.

so I downloaded it and still get the error message.

It did ask me where I wanted files extracted. I just put in the folder where vDJ is.

From the Microsoft link that Cstoll has provided you need to download and INSTALL directX9.
The process should only take about 5mins (depending on you Internet connection and PC specs). Once you've done that relaunch VDJ an the karaoke pulgin should work!

I did download and restart. It didn't work. Got the same error message.

Again Where do I store the extracted files? Because I could download it again and have the files extracted somewhere else.
Posted Tue 05 Oct 10 @ 6:33 pm
try documents > virtualdj > plugins > video effects, but if you go to download section select run instead of save it will automatically save to there anyway.

I thought I did just click run instead of save. I'll try it again.

Still doesnt work. I extracted to video effects.

I don't understand why you are talking about extracted files. I recently had to install DX9 on my dev machine because for some reason it wasn't working.
I clicked on the download link and installed it. At no point- was I extracting anything. It was like installing a new piece of software. Something obviously isn't right.
Just to clarify it is DirectX9 you are trying to install??

Let me chime in for a moment (this is the wishes forum... :P)
Download the Direct X from the provided link.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d
Save the installation file on your desktop.
Run the setup file
If the setup file (of DirectX) asks you where it should extract tre files point it to a temporary directory like C:\Temp
When the extract finishes if no setup window appears go to the temp folder (C:\Temp) and run the setup from there...
You should see the DirectX setup window with a green X logo. Follow the setup guide.
When setup finishes REBOOT your computer
Now, download the Effect you wish from here. Save it on your hard drive and run the exe. Win7 most likely will tell you that setup might have failed but don't pay any attention. Just answer that it installed ok.
Now start VDJ...
Does it work now?
If it does then there's still something you might wish to do...
It seems that you extracted the installation files of DirectX on your VirtualDj directory. You might wanna clear things up. In this case remove from the VDJ directory all the files that are the SAME with the ones of your temp (C:\temp) directory....
Let us know how it went....

I followed the steps stated above and installed DirectX 9.0 successfully. Restarted Virtual DJ, enabled the oupt for Kaorke and no more error. I then searched for a few karaoke tunes and added them to the playlist. Music started playing and virtual dj stopped responding as a program.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?
thanks,
Jon
