Hi all. Does any one know how to cure a really bad humming noise that comes out the speakers when my Laptop has its power lead plugged in? It stops if i run the Lappy on its battery but starts again if i plug the power lead in. i have tried arranging all the wires to keep them spaced out but its definately more than interferance by the cables...
Any ideas please oh Wise Ones ov the Worldly Wide...

Its a common problem called ground loop.
Get a ground loop eliminator at a local radio store, or if you can get a non ground extension cord..

Had the same problem myself. I discovered that my plug was the culprit. I simple bought a new one and the problem was solved.

Hello Seana23 and haz0rd,
Can you try if
1 - using another dual RCA cable between the console audio output and the speakers,
2 - connecting your computer and your speaker kit on the same power strip
eliminates or reduces the problem?

@hazord, why quote yourself from the previous post which you just happen to have made? plus the reply you made in the second doesn't warrant a quote box anyway.

Now here's one to mull over.
My Mac has a power supply that has a direct two prong adapter that plugs right into the wall. (which still gives a little bit of ground loop noise)
It also features an extension cord that plugs into the PS which has a three way grounded plug.(see below)
So all of this discussion about the safety concerns leave me wondering hopelessly as to how much validity there really is regarding this.
I have seen laptop PS both ways and fail to see the need for grounding at all and agree with the theory of a ground lift adapter being sufficient for use.
This is not a heavy duty appliance and is not a tool used around water, so I feel safe saying lift it based on my own Mac PS and the associated loads.

It would just seem to me that if the safety claims were valid, a company like Apple wouldn't offer this option.

so, i got the anti getting hit by a meteorite program from TearemUp Life Assurance Co.

ok just tried new cable.. same issues.
I have everything on the same power strip doesn't help. if I drop the ground on the power supply for the laptop it goes away.

What "warrants" a quote? I was simply using the feature to stating that I am replying directly to my previous comment and not something else
which was kinda dumb because mine was the last comment..
Anyway...
Did I use the quote feature correctly this time ?
