Topic: Indexing Tracks & External Drive

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I recently had a problem when searching for tracks in VDJ. When trying to load them into the player I was met with an "error" message in the HC4500 window. Apparently I need to index the tracks or the drive. please could somebody advise how i do this?

Also, is it possible to index an external drive for this?

I checked the pdf document but could not find the instructions for this.

Thanks

John

You can use External drives yes :)
If you get lots of "error file not found", and you had them earlier, but moved them, try fix the error by going to browser tab, in VDJ settings, and click "FIX" for each drive. (preferably with all your music drives connected).

Thanks dj-in-norway.

I did as you sggested, first running the "Check" option and then "Fix", but instead of VDJ finding the songs and reporting "error", it cannot find them at al!

Only half the songs on my laptop drive and half the songs on my backup external drive are 'visible' this way.

A Windows search finds ALL the songs on both drives and happily plays them in Windows Media Player but VDJ only finds half of them.

By the way, no songs have been moved. Each song remains in the directory I put them in months ago.

In VDJ, right click on the directory and choose "add to search DB"

Hippydog, you're a star!

Many, many thanks for this. It all works nicely now.

Cheers
