Topic: What Laptop Do You DJ's Use - Page: 2

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

The video freezes when i use Virtual dj and my macbook pro 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo and 4 gigs of ram. My video card is a Nvidia Geforce 8600m GT with 256mb ram.

Unfortunately, VDJ was written for windoze. The mac version doesn't have all the effects/skins/plugins etc. that the pc version has. It was modified to work on a mac.
I'd say buy a windoze machine with xp.
If you want to use the power of mac (mine a macbook pro 17") you'll need to try software like Traktor Pro. It was made for the mac.

Although I own both VDJ and Traktor Pro, I'd prefer software that doesn't freeze a machine in the middle of a set like VDJ does for me (twice) on my mac.

Otherwise play if safe with VDJ on a PC.

This is all of course in my opinion.

its because you are trying to use XP with a directx 10 card. I have the 2.6 model no freeze in windows 7 or snow leopard.

i use a Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz with Snow Leop

I used an old ass Dell inspiron 600m for awhile, but last 2+ years I have been using a Dell inspiron 1520 Dual core 2.2 with 4gig ram. Both used for just music not video both with Windows XP. Just built a custom lanbox desktop with Windows 7 64bit, 2 2tb HDs, 6gig ram, i7 960 processor, but have not used it out yet, waiting for a few other things I need first.

@ Cyder. I have the mac Bootcamped with all the mac hardware drivers for XP including the video card. Nvidia Geforce XP drivers.

Your Absolutely right! U have to invest in pro audio gear as well as Higher End Laptops especially if doing Videos!! Even if your just starting out u have to invest in the pro equipment to get up and running properly.

I'm telling you without vista or windows7 it will continue to suck, I'm also telling you have have damn near the same machine with win7 32 and no issues. Your problem is xp. Drivers or not your card was not designed to work on DX9 and its the root of your video problem. Mine freezes on xp too, thats why I don't use it.

From what you wrote above about direct x and xp, i didnt understand that.

I understand now what you are saying but in the beggining when you said about Direct X 10 card with Xp, i didnt understand that. Thats why i wrote XP drivers for my NVidia Geforce card.

CRasher.. if you think your laptop runs well with Vista, try it with XP Pro... it will blow your mind!!! you'll fly off to heaven!!! its soooooooo much faster with xp than vista. and no annoying programes asking if you "really"wanted to do the thing you have just asked it to do!!! its like having your Mum around asking if your "really" going to go out looking like that!!!

just read some earlier posts and must say i dont use it for videos AND music, just banging tunes...

what i'm saying is the 8 series from nvidia needs directx 10 to perform to its fullest potential XP used dx9 so in this way you are holding back the true power of the video card by using it. Because dx10 is only on vista and dx11 is on windows7 you are in essence choking the video card and creating a bottleneck in the gpu. XP is great for older slower computers with say the 7 series cards but every new gpu out there now is made for the newer directx. Its why you have a hard time finding drivers for xp manufactures don't really want you using it because their hardware is made for the new os's.
