Topic: Serato sound box - worth keeping or just toss?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Gang -

I picked up a Serato LIVE box (4 ins and 4 outs) in a box of wires from the flea market.

Does VDJ work w/ this?

Second, I recall the software uses the hardware as a 'dongle' to allow it to work. Is that the case?

What is it worth?

Thanks gang!

If its the SL1 your good, it will work with VDJ. The only downfall I can think of is you wont be able to run samples on their own channel. So I would say keep it.

if you have a pc, it is DEF worth keeping. great box, if you got it cheap and you dont like it, its worth over 350$ and is easy to sell. just keep that in mind.

depends on whether you're a dj or business man or both...
i don't know what i'd do if i found something shiny like gold in my backyard. i'd probably call the authorities.. i wouldn't go online to find out what it really was or what it can do...

i say toss...

Well, I know it's not an SL-1, just SL.

And, I like to use all three and the SL only has two.

But if I decided to venture into TC, would this work w/ VDJ?

After checking around, the $ it brings in might be better than me just hanging onto this - just in case.

The link you showed is an SL1 and yes it would work with VDJ and Timecodes.

Lmao, I take it your business man who has no business??

I meant the box only has SL, not SL-1.

I know the BOX only says"SL" but it is now know as the SL1 and yes it will work with VDJ and its timecodes.

If you bouight the serato box really cheap.. Its worth hanging on to. Now you can try it witha DMC 2 or a Denon Hc4500 to see what it feels like hooked to the serato box and Scratch live

$25 for that and a bunch of wires and cables. It seems like it actually works (at least as a sound card) w/ VDJ and allows Serato to install and run. But I have no TC.

You could donate it to development also.
All of these tools help make the software better for everybody.

I am asking eveywhere. Do I need to download new drives to use virtual with the Serato SL1 box or will Virtual recognize it?

you can donate it to me if you want :D

i say dont toss, instead of tossing it donate it to someone (me lol)

or offer it on craigs list/freecycle etc..

Please do not post the same question in more than one topic.

$25 for the serato bucks is a steal! It should work on VDJ, I have a Rane Mp4 (Basically a Serato box wrapped up in a mixer) and it works great with VDJ. But if you need some quick cash, you could easily sell it and make 10 times what you paid for it......assuming that it works of course.

Have you tested it out with VDJ yet?
Have you downloaded serato and seen if the software recognizes the box?

i have serato. i tried them all. its nothing special. i'd sell the box and get a traktor sound card; u get a higher quality card than the sl1 ($400) and sl3 ($700) and u can use the traktor card with virtualdj....

vdj to serato wouldnt be a smooth transition and the card isnt that special to use with vdj. if u got it for $25 i'd resale it to get an audio 4 or 8 card... or just get the money and run. u wouldn't appreciate the sl1 if you're NOT a scratch dj..

Having a serato box doesn't mean you are a scratch dj. The box can be used for many things. It works native with the following. Denon HC4500, HD2500, Numark ICDX, DMC2, Pioneer CDJ 400, Mep 7000.
