Topic: What type of setup should i use?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

i've always liked music have a fair bit on itunes (around 2000 songs?) but am sick of just listening to it i wanna mix it, change it up share it with friends (no i dont plan on being the next club dj) just fooling around, and playing at house parties but im really stuck on which set up to go with..

do you think i should go strait to digital dj.. by that i mean use a midi controller (specifically ndx 800, by numark, and map them to VDJ ,buddy of mine has them and there pretty sick, or maybe the RMX)

or do you think i should get a mixer, cd players, and start of with that, then maybe buy a sound card after.. i unno

im just really undecided so i decided to ask here since theres so many people, how do you dj? and if you've once use cd's then gone to VDJ what are the pro's (pretty simple..) and cons? the thing is with going with a midi controller set up its more expensive and price is always a factor,

NDX800 $399 each.
CDJ 400 $699 each. <<wish i had that kinda money to spend

if ur tight on a budget, i recommend getting the rmx, it is small, relatively cheap, mobile and easy to use, and if u wanna go more deep into djing, u can use it as a soundcard with ur tts and a mixer.

thats what i did, i started with the mk2 and then moved on to the rmx and now use the rmx with my dvs setup

if is just for hobbie i will start out with hercules mk2 or if you want u can even use keyboard short cut and mouse and save ur money for the ladies

I've just started myself. I play music purely through my PC and home stereo at the mo, and my set up cost me £125.

Bought a hercules mp3 e2 midi controller, which comes with basis virtual dj - £95. (you get a 20 day free upgrade to virtual DJ pro)

Needed to pick up an external sound card, in order use headphones, so bought a behringer UCA 2020 - £30.

Both connect to your pc via USB ports. Plug your headphones straight into the external (behringer) soundcard. Go to settings in virtual DJ, and change the config. so you use the computer soundcard for output, and external soundcard for headphones.

You can also then connect the behringer soundcard to a stereo using phono leads, change the settings so your output is via the external soundcard, and headphones via internal soundcard. your music can then be played via the AUX channel on your stereo.

Hope this helps!

i took the easy way out (after using the free Pro Download for a month) and bought an RMX with free Basic VDJ... its brilliant and cost about £250. It has the sound card pre-installed and works fine with my PC.
Having played around for about 8 weeks i see that the Basic VDJ is... well... Basic. The Pro software is another £100 (with a discount as i have already got the RMX and VDJ Basic.)- nice touch.
I'll be buying a Lappy next, then its off out and about... Cant wait!!!
hope that helps somewhat.

I bought a pair of the NDX800's and they are AWSOME!

I am amazed at how good these things are. Read the specs. EVERYTHING works as it should. Even the platter gives you amazing control if you like to scratch.

If anyone has questions for an actual owner/user, just ask.

I still can't believe the price... BTW I bought them during a Presidents Sale and got 15% off so I ended up paying $339 each with free shipping!!! UNBELIEAVABLE!

I have owned Denon, Numark, American DJ, and stil use technic 1200s and have used/owned MIDI controllers and I have not been this excited over a piece of equipment in a long time. Can you tell? LOL

NDX800's are the best bang for your buck!

how can i set them up so i can acces the music from my computer...?
thanks...!

can the numark ndx800 can be controlled threw the usb/midi with out cd for the virtual dj

Yes, it is natively supported - Please download the latest v6.1 trial http://www.virtualdj.com/download/trial.html

Make sure that the NDX-800 is in MIDI (PC) mode (Press the SOURCE button) before starting VirtualDJ and it will be automatically detected and used at start-up.

Mulletman had it right, although you should use the USB audio interface to connect to your stereo then just plug your headphones into the headphone jack on your computer.
