Topic: vestax spin / vestax typhoon dj controller & virtual dj

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

In 2009 vestax launched the spin controller in conjunction with apple.
The budget controller shared many similarities with the vestax vci series of controllers but was launched at a lower price & sold in apple stores

The unit has touch sensitive jog wheel, mic input, audio output 3 band eq .

I'm pleased that dj controllers are finally starting to be desirable & classy even if its plastic.

2010 vestax typhoon is launched.

vestax typhoon is exactly the same as vestax spin but has a gift wrap & ribbon style texture & colouring.
The software is pc & mac compatible so i presume it will be widely available in europe

I actually prefer the spin & its simplicity. The typhoon finish is messy & unclear, the printed text is hard to read & the flashing lights ,indicators & leds wont help. why didn't vestax just launch one unit?

Does anyone own or have any news on the vestax spin controller & virtual dj?

WOW, that typhoon is hard on the eyes....I would go nuts if I had to use that for any length of time. The spin is a very nice, clean and contemporary design and I have been waiting to try it, but the Apple stores here in Phoenix and Scottsdale each got one unit before christmas and to my knowlege never got anymore in after they sold them.....I have checked several times but they can't tell me when they are going to be restocked.

The spin is midi compatible so it should work with both mac and pc, but to my knowlege no one has written a mapper for it yet.

I too like it's simplicity and if I can ever get a hold of one I was thinking of using it as my main controller/mixer and get a couple NanoPads to trigger the hot cues and loops since the spin has limited buttons.

I'm unable to find a uk dealer for spin, only extortionate e bay sellers exist as Vestax closed down their european markets in 2006.
Vestax spin is apple store exclusive but apple stores are not the ideal place for reviewing & promoting dj equipment.

There are diy traktor midimaps for vestax spin which was originally mac only using djay software.
But the typhoon will be mac & pc compatible & will come pre-supplied with a version of traktor ????????

won't the previous mac users using spin choose traktor instead of d jay as you cannot record directly to mp3 in djay?

I cannot grasp the business logic of vestax who are struggling in europe launching 2 identical controllers using separate software.

I'm not keen on using traktor when i already own vdj & have the luxury of custom skins & video mixing.
why are vestax trying to reinvent the wheel?

The typhoon will most certainly fail against spin if both units are freely available & the prices are the same.

Hey guys i just ordered the spin version and was upset that there is a pc version! it would have made things easier to get the pc one for me! my question is since i already ordered the spin its supposed to be identical to the typhoon wouldnt the typhoon sofware just work on it? if i get tractor pro will it just work or am i going to have to hassle with it? so is it the same exact hardware? i need to know i will send it back and buy the other one i like the apples design better! and if your wondering i was going to mess with it to get it to work on my pc in the begining. but hey if theres a pc version then i dont need to do that! If i keep the spin and use the typhoon drivers and it works then that would be perfect! so help me out thanks!!
