Try activating the plugin before you enter the text.

As stated above all video effects need to be activated, and you find that little oblong box in the middle of the video effects browser just click on it and it will turn blue to indicate the effect you want to run has been activated.
so the sequence is from browser > click on effects > click video effects tab > highlight effect you want to use > click on activate box.
However you will need to have directx9 and c++ installed on your system for them to work.

I always thought that message was misleading and should have been "Text2D is not Activated" since the button says "Activate" on it not "Initialize"

It's the right message. Both issues may be in play here. You may need to install the latest Direct X driver. If you have the latest, then you need to activate the plug in first, as everyone has stated. For some reason, this is only true for some text plug-ins. You don't have to do this for the included text plug-in.

Like Tayla and the rest sayd..could be the sequence of turning it on (kind of strange?) but more than likely you need to download all the proper Direct X files and not just the recent one (2009?) but the previous ones (2006?). some of the Texters were "writen" back afew years ago.theres a link to download its in another Thread...I think in a Plugin Forum, look around the forums, its there. I had the same problem a while back..Good Luck!...
