I'm running the following:
- Hercules RMX
- VDJ v. 6.0.5
- Windows XP Home
Though I've owned my Hercules RMX and VDJ for over a year now...I'm relatively new at using both. I'm an avid SSL/VSL user, but do love the multi uses of VDJ as an all in one package, and this is why I purchased both.
At any rate, I'd like to start using VDJ and the RMX for upcoming Karaoke venues.
Being relatively new at using the hardware and software...I cannot figure out how to add reverb or echo to the microphone.
In the Mappers under Config, I have Hercules DJConsole RMX selected.
Any help on this is GREATLY appreciated.
I want to work out all the bugs before I start offering this as a package to my future clients.
Thank you.

Thanks, but I'd really like to figure out if it's possible to add effects to the Microphone inputs on the Hercules RMX with VDJ.
But...not looking good for the home team so far...

The silver 1u item in the middle, it's a rackmount mixer with four balanced mic inputs 2 on the front and 2 on the back. You can assign effects to each mic independently.

I use a TC Helicon VoiceWorks Plus and a TC Electronics M350 Reverbs and Effects Processor in my rack which is fed into a PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2 digital/analog mixer which also has effects and up to 16 mics for a killer karaoke show. This gear provides the utmost in vocal effects and presentation.
You may not need all of this so I would recommend buying just the TC Electronics M350 which runs about $150 USD or a used one for about $99 or less on eBay. This will give you all of the reverbs and effects you will need.

Thank you Charlie and Rude. ;-)
I'd also like to know how I can get effects on a single mic input attached to the Hercules RMX with VDJ. Just a bit of a low-budget way to play with and provide a little Karaoke show while entertaining family and friends.
Thanks again.

Rob, How are you inputting the sound from VDJ to the mixer?
As one of 4 back up mixers, I have a Numark C3USB. I picked this mixer up mainly for my outdoor events, as I didn't want to damage my main mixer (Rane TTM 57SL). I also picked this mixer up as I can play VDJ straight to it without dealing with an external sound card. Just run two USB cables to from the laptop to the mixer and channels 4 and 5 and you're good to go.
Now, you gave me a thought....I can run the C3USB with VDJ and still have the ability to run with two microphones...though the mixer has inputs for three. One of the two channels for the microphone input (channel 4) is also one of the two USB connections. So, running software that's taking up both USB connections eliminates one of the three mic inputs.
Well....just realized as well....I won't have any effects on the mics if I use the system as is. I'd need an effects processor that I can connect the mics into. Anyone have thoughts on this...?
Here's the Numark C3USB:

I would recommend one of these inexpensive Behringer mixers to run the mic through for the effects then to your RMX: $130 US

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/1002FX.aspx
It has 24 effects & they are solid units.

Paul, DJ RudeDogg, I sent you a PM as I'd like to talk you about KJing.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Rob, could you elaborate on how you do this? I'm not familiar with running microphones into a mixer and then bringing that mixer into another one.
Thank you.

Please don't use the word "solid" for Behringer products. They are a consumable product so the life expectancy is not long. I don't sell this mixer but I have repaired the power supply in 2 of them(exact model) for a client . I do use one(exact model) at one of my karaoke gigs and have discovered 2 problems in general with them besides the power supply issue which "can be" only a Canadian issue as power supplies are different in each country in many cases due to voltages and frequency. And yes I am a certified electronics technician... The clipping is very horrible when someone starts singing loud in the microphone so keep your hand on the input gain rather than the fader when someone you don't know gets up to sing. They claim they use the same preamp as Mackie but the rest of the circuit is of lesser quality. The second problem which I have seen with this particular model is the random loss of the effects control. Meaning, you can't add effects to any channel. The only way to get it back up and running is to turn off the power and repower it after a few seconds then it works again. BTW - The CFX series of Mackie has the same problem.

Thanks for the response Frank.
I picked up the Behringer XENYX 1622FX this afternoon and will work a couple of ways to hook up the laptop, Hercules RMX, and the 1622FX.
Have you any input on the 1622FX?
Any advice on hooking up the above hardware? Hercules RMX to 1622FX or 1622FX to Hercules RMX?
Thank you to everyone.

I have the 1622fx as well. good product. i have one for mobile and I installed one at a club about a year ago for the bands to use. its used a few time a week and all the faders are still good. Ussually on that model the on off switches fail after a year or so. I've replaced 2 of them was able to clean the others. My 2nd board 3 faders went after 1 year but again they are replaceable "ALPS" faders that i bought locally. the switches have held up on that one.

Thanks Frank. So far so good with the hook up.
I have all hooked up as such:
Notebook (VDJ) ---> Hercules RMX ---> Behringer 1622FX ---> Powered Speakers.
Something's gotta be wrong actually....I tested out the system with me singing.....and hell, my voice sounded good singing to some oldies. That can't be right...I have a jacked up singing voice....usually when I get on the mic to sing...it's the end of the night....I start clearing the house. ;-)
Thanks everyone.

I bought a 1622 FX and turned right around and returned it. I then picked up a PreSonus 16.4.2. Now this is a beast!!I can record my customers singing and then sell them a disc of it for $10.

Paul, I definitely am not in the market to spending $2k on a PreSonus 16.4.2 when Karaoke is not my main concern. I have thousands wrapped up in Rane, Pioneer, Yorkville, Yamaha...yadda, yadda, yadda.....for my DJing. KJing is a side business I'll run as an add on to my events.
I think this 1622FX will meet my needs....for now.
Thanks again Paul.

Lol, I know man... I was just telling you what I use now. If I were you though I would have spent a little more and gone with an Allen and Heath board or even a Mackie, the Behringer just sounded inferior to me when I used it and the reviews were not great either...

BTW: You may find that karaoke is a lucrative endeavor and buy some high-end stuff later on down the line. I made well over $3000 just doing karaoke last month and it was all before the 16th of the month! That's not including regular company Xmas dance/game parties!
I am a good singer which really helps get people out there, not to mention when word gets out that you have some bomb-assed equipment that makes people sound awesome... you will have them flocking to your shows.
