Hello all.
I've noticed not a great deal on the forums about the new Pioneer CDJ900, CDJ2000 and Virtual DJ (ie, not many experiences etc), so I thought I'd post my own review now that I've used them.
Normally I play at clubs using my Torq Xponent and just plug into a spare channel on the mixer in the booth.
However I was playing at a club on Saturday night where I knew there would be some CDJ2000's being used, so I bit the bullet and updated from 5.2.1 to 6.0.4 on Thursday night.
Went to the club after lunch on Saturday to get a look at the new decks, and to see how easily i could get it working with VDJ, but not really intending to use them on the night. However armed with 2 usb cords, they installed with no driver popups etc and worked so easily and flawlessly, I ended up sticking with them and left my Xponent in the bag.
The responsiveness was perfect, the hot cues were great. I was missing the 1,2,4,8 loop buttons I'm used to (which are present on the CDJ900 though), so I mapped these loops to the cue/loop, memory and delete buttons which just above the platter, (and which had nothing assigned to them), and they worked great. The beatlock function i mapped to the eject button as I figured I prob wouldn't be needing that one :)
The other DJ's there were equally impressed, we soon discovered that the right deck has red led's which come on around the platter, and the left deck stays white. These also flash in time with the beat, which is pretty cool.
I must admit that I wasn't game enough to do too much scratching, as this has been the only thing I've ever found previously (only once in the past) to cause a program crash, although that was probably an early xponent mapper issue, rather than VDJ itself; I'm sure scratching works just fine.
When I buy my 900's tomorrow, I'll be putting them through the paces, and will keep you all posted. I don't really see the point in purchasing the more expensive 2000's in my case, as all the extra functionality is stuf that with a laptop I will probably never use.
Main reason for purchasing them is to be as comfortable with them in a year as I am right now with my Xponent. It won't be long before 2000's and 900's will be in clubs everywhere, and It will be nice to rollup with a 13" macbook pro and 2 usb cords and be able to do everything.
Cheers!

Thanks for the review, glad it went ok.
I think only the decent clubs will be upgrading in the immediate future though due to the recession.

well, one trip to Adelaide SA today and im $3740 poorer but two CDJ900\'s richer :)
i hooked it up and configured the virtual dj CDJ900 mapper to the pioneer buttons in the way that best suited again.
There\'s a lot of flexibility. Fantastic.
PsychoMantis23, each CDJ900 (or CDJ2000) has it\'s own inbuilt soundcard, so all you need are two USB cords.
The cd players install themselves as soundcards automatically (at least in windows XP professional sp2 anyway).
So in Virtual DJ Config----- and \"Sound Setup\" just set.....
Inputs - None
Outputs - External Mixer (left deck/first card, right deck/second card)
Soundcard - 2 Cards.
Make sure in the two drop down menus that appear on the right, that you select a different CDJ900 (or CDJ2000) for each.
I scratched the hell out of a few tracks and spun the jogwheels back and forth as fast as i could and couldn\'t get VDJ 6.0.4 to crash, so now I\'m fully satisfied it won\'t. I notice 6.0.5 is now out too.
Hope this is all of help to someone.
Cheers!

The default mappings for the CDJ-900 and CDJ-2000 are done via the exact feature description on the controllers.
Can you tell me what is different that you mapped? Is it because something was working as you expected it? Or, just custom control for your liking?
For example, neither unit has pitch bend buttons - so I personally have mapped the Track Search <<| |>> buttons for doing pitch bend instead of always having to use the platters.

no problems.
I firstly mapped the Eject buton as 'Beatlock/Sync'
I mapped the two Cue/Loop call buttons, plus Delete and Memory buttons to act as Hot Cue 1,2,3 and 4.
I also mapped the Reverse button to act as 'play sample' (or whatever it is), as I'm unlikely to use reverse in my sets.
I've been trying to map vinyl speed adjust to act as the 'loop shift' knob in VDJ but haven't had any luck yet.
It's really to suit my personal liking and the way I play.
